On 1st August, Google+ started deleting private accounts. Google+ has now started to verify accounts on their database and awarding badges to those verified as celebrities, public figures and simply others who have been added to a lot of circles. The verification process shall be extended to other users as well.
Besides being an incentive scheme and an authentication process, making people add others to their circles is a vital part of the survival of the social network. And there's no better place to start than the accounts of celebrities and popular figures.
The incident mimics those of both Twitter and Facebook where celebrity accounts contributed hugely to the success of the sites
