how do you do that anyways? I can create cool rounded stuff, but then when I save it it saves the white, square background.

I always had this problem and it sucks. Although, I'm not sure what the ultimate fix for transparent images are. Although, I found that if you just decide what background color you're going to use and plant that underneath of it in another layer things pop out just fine.
yeah, that would work well... but I can't figure out the color of my background... I'll play with it a bit and see what I can come up with.

Download that. Run it. Then mouseover the color of your choice. Now, hit ctrl+alt+c. This will pick your color, then you can paste it with ctrl+v or right click and paste it.

Indeed. That is my favorite program for as little and useful as it is.

You just screenshot your website. You then go into Photoshop and make a new document, paste the screenshot into it, use the color picker to get the background color and color code.
When you save an image and want it transparent, you save it as .gif, you make sure the transparency box it checked in the window you're taken too after choosing "save for web", you then use the color picker tool again, you click the color you want transparent, then you save.
When using a shadow like you are, a transparent image will look rough, it's best as Buckeye suggested, to use your pages background color as the background.
All this can be done in Photoshop.
