Thread: Critique on portfolio design please

So I got bored and bought a few domains for my portfolio site (only ment to buy one...but got carried away I guess )

ndedesigns.com and ndedesign.com (the latter was the first one I bought, but I thought it sounded better as a plural, so bought that too).

Anyway, i'm making it into my portfolio site and i've created a small mockup of the design i'm going to use for it. Just wondered if anyone is willing to give some pointers on how to improve it.



I still need to make a logo (it'll go in the top right somewhere, near the arrow and that) and add something to the footer (probably just saying "copyright NdeDesigns 2008" or something along those lines). Might add a few more brushes in to spice it up a bit at the top (around the arrow).

At the moment I think it's too blue, opinions?

The colors look good but don't you think the design looks dull for a portfolio?

I don't aim to make my portfolio that exciting. I'm not an amazing designer, I know that. I'm a coder. But I can design to an extent.

It'll be there to show my work and be a means for potential clients to contact me, not much else.

I have no doubts that my work will speak for itself. Especially after the latest site i'm working on (full CMS system for a site anyway).

What do you think would make it more exciting anyway? I'll consider anything.

I am not a designer nor a coder
but wheneva i come across a portfolio it has some appeal, a sort of attractiveness which urges the visitor to see each of his designed work.

Hi,

As a coder dose that mean you can take a psd template and turn it into a wordpress theme? If so PM your price.

Now as for your theme it is the guy at the bottom that bugs me. He looks sad and lazy. Not excited about doing anything. Hard to sell work if you do not look excited about it.

Sorry but i've not really played about much with wordpress, so wouldn't be comfortable taking on a paid job until I know I can. I think unr does that though, you could ask him

Personally, I love the design colors with just the splashes of the contrasting yellow/oranges. I have to agree with losing the man in the corner, though, as he does look rather hangdog. There are plenty of people out here (myself included) who prefers more of a professional look than a flashy, exciting look - it really depends on what type of site is wanted.

Good job on the website first of all. I think it looks very clean and simple, a suggestion is to change the arrow design, I don't like how the end looks, its to bulky and sharp I think.

Yes, my suggestion would be to change the arrow as well.

I would take out the guy and swirly things in the corner and take out the arrow. Work on some soft colors and make it web 2.0. There's my suggestion. The theme looks nice but there's always room for improvement.

Looks OK, but a bit empty for a portfolio design. unaligned..
Content should be less text and more what a client would like to see.

I like the colours.

I think you should add some more detail to it
