Default [Tutorial] Making a Folding Circle

May be you find this kind of tutorial on other sites but I have written it myself for the first time.

    ---------------------------------------

    Step 1:

Create a new document of any size and draw a circle in there.

    Step 2:
Ctrl + Click the layer to make the selection and choose the Polygonal Lasso Tool and also choose the "Substract From Selection" Tool from the top menue

    Step 3:
Now cut the selection as shown in the image below

Now right click and select "Layer Via Cut". It will cut the selection from the rest of the circle.

    Step 4:
Now select the layer of the top part of circle and press Ctrl T and right click > Flip Horizontal ... again Right click > Flip Vertical. It will give you an image something like this.

Put the TOP part's layer above of the bottom's part of the circle.

    Step 5:
Go to Layer > Layer Style > Gradient Overlay and choose the gradient of these colors

Use Drop Shadow with following settings

After doing the above settings, your image should look like this

    Step 6:
Now adjust the top part and fit it correctly. and your folding circle is ready

    Here is my image

Please do try this tutorial and let me know your result.

Okay, I get this far and then Layer Via Cut is not an available option.

Did you put your mouse on the circle and then right click?

    It should be there.

May be you deselected the layer that's why it is not selectable.

    Trying doing it again and this time keep the layer selection ON;

    At this stage

May be you have deselected the box that's why it cannot cut the layer.

If it is not the case I don't know what went wrong on your side

If I have deselected the box, how did I do it? And how do I not do it so that I can cut the layer?

May be you pressed Ctrl D (it deselects the object).

If you can see this kind of box, it means you haven't press ctrl D

    Well, I certainly didn't press ctrl-D.

But mine doesn't look quite like that. The dotted lines go around the triangle that I made with the lasso, not around the circle.

Red Hot Mama added 19 Minutes and 22 Seconds later...

Thanks for all of your extra help, btw.

I will have to check it by doing that step again. I am not at my PC now, will let you know if I understand what is the cause of the problem.
