Thread: First website ever! What do you think!

I just completed this website. And guess what its my first website ever. I made it using html and css using Notepad only, graphics were made in GIMP. I would really appreciate your comments and suggestions.:sroll:

Look ok, just not a fan of the brown color on the side. would use a shade of blue their also. IMO.

It's okay. Better than the first site I ever made (although that would have been when I was like 10 or something...).

The coding is pretty good for a first site. Just i'd advise to get out of the habbit of inline css (so style="blah" on HTML elements), use classes and id's to style certain parts through an external style sheet.

The design itself is okay, quite colourful and all that. Not sure I like the background, but that might just be me.

Links have a good rollover effect (at least the side links do, not sure if I like the sparkley thing you've done to the top links).

The header (the bit that says "SMS Bucket") isn't centered which annoys me slightly.

Overall pretty well done, a few things you could have done better but nothing major.

SMS Bucket... do I not know someone with a site called that already?

Actually this is my first website ever and as of yet I am just experimenting and therefore dont plan to be paying money for a domain name, since I am a student. Anyway please do comment on the graphical aspect of my website.

Who is this jani guy? Tell me is it illegal to have a domain name in .co.cc that is already working as .com? My first website concept ever seems to have ruined.

Jani is a regular on this forum, great designer of graphics, and well liked by lots of us.

No, its not illegal to have a ".co.cc" that there is a ".com" for, but oddly enough you happen to show up at a forum where the owner of smsbucket.com happens to frequent.

About your site, its a great first site, wayyyyy better than my first site, but going forward, you might want to look into a few things:

- The Logo looks amateurish, you might find an aspiring artist to make you a logo, in exchange for some exposure.

- The Tag Line has a number of misspelled words, I hope you meant it that way.

- Grammar its a bit awkward, you might find someone to edit your site for you.

- You should make your pages more uniform, I see some pages have a left side nav, others dont, makes it kinda weird to navigate.

Otherwise, its pretty neat!!

Okay the oddity explained: after I completed my first website I thought that I should join some forum that would have people who would technically comment on my websites design, so I googled "web design forums" and "web forums" and just look where I ended up! Anyway I am not so much happy knowing that someone has a website with the same domain name!

I wouldn't worry too much about it... these things do happen.
He's a pretty easy going kind of guy and I'm sure he'll not be too pissed off.

Well he doesn't need to be mad! Its not like I wronged him or something. Its just that coincidently this accident- which i would have prevented if I had known earlier, happened. Anyway comments on how it looks would be appreciated!:-)
