Free Image optimizer software?

I am looking for a simple free program that will optimize and resize images. I need it to include in the website and showcase design, as my client are uploading 1mb jpeg to there website and its loading very slow and using a lot of bandwidth.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Try use Photoshop CS4. I use it every day in my work.

Photoshop is not free.

Try searching google, I would recommend online optimizer tools anyways.

All in all, I would recommend against optimizing the images. Most people have high speed internet connections anyway so optimizing images would compromise quality too much to rationalize an increase in loading times.
