Thread: Adobe Photoshop prices out of control?

Anyone else agree? I love designing and I love to have the latest product but it is hard to keep up in this economy with the ever high prices for Photoshop!

And Adobe isn't hold back on updating either.

Sure my host is saving me lots of money but I'd love to use that cash else where you know other than Adobe!

Absolutely, i had a nosebleed when i shelled out for CS3. The upgrade cost is also way too steep. They should only charge a modest uprade fee when a new version comes out. After all, the products do not change a great deal.

If we had some quality alternatives to choose from maybe the prices would be more reasonable.

I wouldn't mind paying $1000 upfront for Photoshop if they gave me updates to newer version but they charge you!

Also Menthol, I see you own a tennis blog? I was thinking of starting one too as tennis is a very nice hobby of mine. Any tips? I was thinking of getting a small shared hosting package and domain from myhosting.com in order to start off.

If you want the option of selling the site on at a later date, then go with wordpress coupled with your own hosting. Alternatively, you can pick up a domain relatively cheaply and let Google pay for your hosting on Blogger.

I just went ahead and got a small shared hosting package and a domain from myhosting.com! So glad there WASN'T a dent in my purse!!!

They set me up almost instantly! Now all I need to do is design a small template for the WordPress blog!

Yeah! the prices of Adobe Photoshop is always been a big hurdle for world designer i think you can try out post dated versions of Photoshop version 7. That wont hurt that much

The whole problem with the cost of Photoshop is the competition; nobody else has anything close to what it can do.

Like any name brand, once it becomes so popular that the user base makes it an industry standard, the price goes up. You also have to keep in mind that Adobe also raises their prices to help compensate for all the people stealing their software's via hacks / cracks being illegally downloaded & used daily.

So, If you want to blame someone for the higher prices, blame the hackers & illegal software users that make it harder for a developer / coder / designer / company to feed their families, Thus causing a boost in price to compensate for the loss.

Corel CorelDraws prices are slowly rising as well for the same reasons adobe's are.

Very true but some well known brands like the host I am currently using have been around since 1997 and they haven't jacked up the prices.

I think Adobe is losing so much money especially once Flash becomes obsolete due to HTML 5.

Adobe Photoshop is HIGH quality meant for business use. Yes freelances are "business" but Photoshop isn't meant for you. People talk about how if there was quality alternatives Photoshop wouldn't cost as much. This is not true. They milk as much out of people as the market will bear and then a little more.

There is alternatives that is you never saw Photoshop and started with something else you would be just as happy with them. If you think Photoshop is to much learn to live without it. Hell it may be the best but we all used to live without. Learn again :-D

Guys try downloading (vuze) google search, then look for cs4 and away you go..nuff said you can then all send me the $1000 you saved.

Adobe basically has a monopoly on the photo editing market so that is why they can afford to jack up the prices. They know corporations and people will buy them to have the newest and greatest software to be productive.

I remember paying just over $600 for Photoshop in 2002. I agree that the upgrade costs are steep. But the base price for PS CS5 is not quite $100 more than 8 years ago. If you are doing 3D or motion-based content and use the Extended version you are really getting socked in the pocket. $1000 bucks is quite a lot to pay in this economy even if it is for the industry standard.

If you want to beat the high cost of PS and only need to do 2D editing try GIMP. I've been using it for a few years. I like it because it is portable (you can copy it to your flash drive or a CD), it is open source/cross platform...and best of all it is free. Can't beat free.

Yes! The price is getting ridiculously out of control but, while some blame can be placed on Hackers and the like.....I think that the leaders of big business software like Adobe would still hike the prices. At the same time, the software is amazing!

well I know what you mean I have CS3 AND CS4 and now they come out with CS5 to me they are still the same:happy-f:

I paid for CS3, and Im not gonna buy CS5. Instead I'm gonna wait for few more versions before I purchase again.

I will not say that I agree with the price at all. I will also not say that I have multiple versions of Photoshop that I have not parted with money for. I will also not say that I use Photoshop strategically these days and enjoy the option to download free trials from Adobe. I will say that I have five computers.

Photoshop is one of the most usable thing while create a website its very easy to use editing images and increase pixels....

Well, the good thing with Photoshop is that they are constantly updating and tweaking. All that research has to come with a price. I think that it would not be a wise idea to keep on updating, though. And yes it is much too expensive!

Possibly, sure.... However, it also means that fewer sales will help soak up the loses..

True true. But I believe in the saying that you should have more sales for a few profit rather than big profits on fewer sales. That way, you have a good handle on your customer base

I agree. Price is just to high. and if it keeps raising this way it's gonna be a problem for us.

i have cs4 and cs5,but m looking forward for the new version.

They cost well over $500 now! Over $1000 for the Suite! It is tremendously pricey.

I haven't bought my own licensed copy of Photoshop yet. Fortunately, my company offers the software so I just do photoshop-related works at the office. Prices of software are beginning to rise uncontrollably nowadays. I hope with the more upcoming programs. they'll lessen their prices.
