    Default Photoshop translation please

Ok, I am going through this tutorial in photoshop to make a better looking cirlce , mor eorb like and I'm lost on a step, can anyone translate please?
I've made the cirlce and done a couple things, the step I'm lost on says this,
" Load the selection from the circular area and on a new layer drag the linear gradient (white to transparent) downwards from top to bottom but not all the way to the bottom."

Does this mean I just use the circle marque and measure the cirlce I've already made, put that on a new layer and do the gradient or just make a duplicate layer of my existing cirlce and then add the gradient on there? Or none of the above LOL Hopefully someone can follow this.. Kalina where are you to save me yet again!!!!

In the layer palette, you have to click the layer... ok wait, I know what it means, but I need to open Photoshop first to explain.

Ok, go to the layer palette, hold down ctrl and click the layer, not where the name of the layer is, over to the left where it shows a square preview of the layer.

Your circle will become selected with the marquee. Then make a new layer in the layer palette above that layer and do the gradient on it.

Thank you, I love that you had to open photoshop to see. I think for certain things I just know how to do it after awhile and can't explain it. Its nice someone else is like that too! Worked perfectly now that you translated. ;-)

Ok, now how can I put text soit circles around the cirle for without it looking all funky? I tried using the text shapes to an arch but it seems to distor the font. Any ideas?

Make sure anti-aliasing is on for the font and try a different font til it looks ok, not all fonts look good curved.
