Question How to create a logo?

I have difficulties coming up with a nice banner & logo that I can put on top of my website. Do you have any tools you could suggest I should use to create such a banner & logo?

Also, any ideas where I might find a good tutorial to create a logo for my website?

    Thanks!

Photoshop is the best choice for making Logos ( Corel Draw isnt bad either) you can use Flash to make animated banners.
if You choose photoshop to work, I'd suggest you spend a day playing with its different tools before doing any serious work. the play will give you some ideas about the functionality of tools..

Hint: I love Layer effects, Path tool and filters...

Visit Photoshop Tutorials and Flash Tutorials they have got pretty nice and easy to understand tutorials.. hope it helps.

Myself, I find it is easier on me to get someone to design a logo for me.
Why spend time on something you can outsource?

If you got the skills, great!
Now me, not got the skills (have ideas).
My time is money, so if I can get someone to do it for me, I save time and money.

I don't have the money available for outsourcing, but in case i ever do: the best place to start looking would be this forum i guess?

Yeah, this would be the first stop to find someone to do something for you.

For logos, I use Kim (kdemonte) as she is good, fast and the best here.

Actually, logos are better developed with a vector program like Illustrator or Freehand. Photoshop is better for specific effects and most definitely for banners. With a true vector you can reproduce the logo in a variety of formats with no loss of quality. That's not the case with a raster file (Photoshop, Fireworks, etc.)

I think it's important to state that there's a huge distinction between a logo and banner. They aren't the same thing and people quite commonly refer to one or the other as if they were.

chaka42 thanks for the suggestions! I never heard of the Freehand program, and it seems to me quite a neat tool. I'm definately going to give it a try, though i doubt I will ever be able to create professional looking icons

Try and try again, its fun to learn if you like graphics. I agree with Chaka, as always, definite difference in logos versus headers and illustrator is MUCH better at logo designs the photoshop. Photoshop is too choppy for lack of a better word IMHO to make good logos

Using Illustrator is recommended as the source file should be vector not bitmap.

you can get a good designer to make you one for about 10 bucks now a days. so don't waste all your time trying when you can put that time to good use else where. Identify your strengths and concentrate on that for now. Only if you plan to make a living from designing should you put a lot of man hours into learning photoshop.

    - Pen tool there is great
    - 3D Effect is good and i always use it

If you're planning to make any kind of vector-type work (i.e. logos), I'd really recommend picking up Adobe Illustrator as it's a great software for vector work. You can also look up different techniques in vector/logo creation through tutorials... just google for it and I'm sure you'll find some.

i really don't recommend photoshop shop beginners because photoshop can be very confusing to a new user not to mention a user that has no clue how to make a image in my own opinion i would start out with something simple like paint or something get the hang of it then if needed you can upgrade

photoshop is pricey and i would not want to see anyone spend $$$$ on a program that they are not going to use if they decided this type of stuff was not for them

Good design really takes years of practice. I would suggest hiring someone to do it for your website and then practice in your free time until you are of a suitable standard to design your own.
