Thread: Why is this site being redirected?

I am redesigning a website for a client. The previous designer isn't communicating with me about this problem, and I can't figure out what he did.

The website is peachbasketonline.com. When I type in one of the pages he's created (like peachbasketonline.com/info/moreabout) it takes me there fine, but when I try to go to any page outside of those he created (like peachbasketonline.com/about.html or peachbasketonline.com/anythingelse) it automatically takes me back to the homepage.

I'm at my wit's end! Does anyone have any ideas how I can change this?

There must be a htaccess or a php redirect in there, the redirect checks for existence of the file/folder when the url request is submitted, if it doesn't exist then the user if forwarded to the default configured page. in which case it's peachbasketonline.com/home

Contact the previous webmaster or look up the website documentation if one was supplied for more information on this.

maybe the page that you are tending to enter is temporarily not available, that is why the page is redirecting you to the homepage. The previous designer might have changed the page's URL. Do everything you can just to get in touch with him.

Thanks for your replies everyone--it was indeed the .htaccess file. As long as I put any new pages or elements in the .htaccess directory they work fine (he used "options -indexes" to do this)

An easy fix but I have never worked with htaccess files--thank you very much for your help!

In your website root path ,
you will be having htaccess file
where all the web rewrites are done
try to fin in your web site htaccess file

A few others emailed me the same question. What happened to them was that someone hacked their unpatched/insecure installation of WordPress and replaced the site with a redirect to their website.

The htaccess file is causing the redirect issue. You must set the protocols to not redirect.

I think they have used 301 permanent or 302 temporary redirection through HTACCESS redirect.
