Thread: PR Predictors

I was just wondering how accurate the PR predicton sites are. I have tried a few but have no idea if they give an accurate prediction as I have never previously tested it before any updates to see how they matched by sites before and after.

Anyone else had any good or bad experiences?

Not very accurate, fun to play around though sometimes

More fun to take a quarter and call heads or tails on any page rank you desire for your site.

(probably the real way that google comes up with page rank!)

Thanks for the response I was somewhat surprised when it said one of my sites was going to jump to PR5, considering I hadn't done anything to make it rise 2 PR.

PR predictors usually use some algorythm and count incoming links at Technorati, Alexa Ranking change etc, but there is no really accuarate way to predict a sites PR, because there are a lot of other factors that may change it (like selling links may get you to PR0, when you were expecting PR5 :sgrin.

ya, no one knows the exact google algorithm...so it's pretty impossible to hit it straight on, plus the fact that google probably changes it every time they update the PR, lol

They count backlinks and the weight of those backlinks. Google has become much more thorough than that, as evidenced by the heavy PR penalisation experienced by many a couple of months back.

They're not accurate. They use the base mathematical model for pagerank, but fail to build in domain/age based trust, penalizations, nofollows, anything like that.
A couple predicted a blackhat site of mine at PR8. At update, it was only PR4(and shortly after, it was banned)
I don't have a lot of faith.

take everything with a grain of salt.

I'm already surprised I have a couple PR3 and done nothing to get there.

They also don't take into account the growth of new pages on the net. With a fixed scale from 0 to 10, Google is always adjusting the relative criteria for each level of PR. They try to keep some sort of distribution pattern of PR level. PR7 pages will never, can never, outnumber PR3 pages.

It probably takes much more to get a site to PR5 than it did 2 years ago.

Personally, I think that the PR predictors don't mean a thing. The only thing they might be able to help you with is selling ur site. Like lets say ur site is a PR 2, and predited PR 6, you can say, yea, I was predicted to be a PR 6. That could help in some situations. Commonly, they are very in accurate. The prediction could happen in like a few decades...
