Exclamation eBay Lowers Fees, Raises Commissions

eBay plans to lower listing fees as of Feb 20 but plans to raise commissions on sales under $25 to 8.75%!

To me, that's the wrong direction as it will penalize all the small-timers and people selling smaller (less expensive) items like individual baseball cards, dvd's, and personal vibrators! Seriously, used to be I wouldn't list anything I couldn't get at least $20 for because of the associated insertion, final value, and PayPal fees.. now it'll be next to impossible to turn a profit on smaller items unless you sell in bulk. People will just stop listing under $25 items and/or move over to Amazon (no listing fees).

Most people won't notice and that's the way they want it.

The greatest fee increase will come for goods selling for less than $25. EBay's fee for those transactions will rise 67 percent, to 8.75 percent of the final sale price.

Maybe by having those fees for items less than $25.00, it will help eliminate those sellers who dump the same product with like 30-100 auctions at one time.
Especially in the business section, one finds the same seller selling the same thing on page after page!
Bit tiresome for buyers to scroll through pages to find something they want.

Host sellers and those selling ebooks/software/scripts are the worst offenders.

I see yer point there but maybe they can do it by category then? Dunno, but it makes it hard for garage salers to sell too.

That's a big increase, they should increase fees, and reduced commissions.

Simple way to take care of those fees.
In the shipping/handling charges, just add the fee.
As in if you shipped for $5.00, then make it $5.95 or something like that.

The problem is: there's no other place quite like eBay.. ebay knows it has a captive market.

I'd like to see an auction site that's a cross between YouTube, Qoof, ExpoTV, and EBay.. auction descriptions with video.

(I realize you can embed YouTube videos but it'd be so much easier if you could upload them directly, as you can photos.)

I just had a running series of emails with a seller who wanted to charge $8 for insurance for a < $50 item (should be under $2 insured). When I questioned him about it, he said insrance wasn't mandatory. I reminded him that that opens the door to a seller saying he sent an item when he didn't and so forth. He consequently relented and lowered the insurance to $3. when I said I'd pass on bidding.

If a buyer doesn't pay for insurance, I usually insure it anyway to protect myself.

This is a ripoff! I have been trading on eBay for many years and all these fees were high as it is. What's going to happen now - most of the sellers will have to increase shipping charges to cover extra expenses.
