    Default Spam

    Okay ladies and gentlemen,

Which applications do you use to filter out crap and spam from Outlook?

I'm getting an increasing amount of spam, and it's started to slow me down.

I've created rules in Outlook which take care alot of older spam, but spammers are coming up with all sorts of tricks.

What do you do to control spam - or what applications do you use and recommend.

    Grim and Kalina,

Have you noticed emails getting binned via the server that shouldn't be though? That's what worries me about server spam software.

Nope. You can set it to be touchy or 'conservative' I have it set at 10 which is very conservative. It allows some spam through but nothing that should not.

I had the same worries, I tested it out on one account and allowed the spam to come through tagged as spam. Nothing ever came through tagged as spam that wasn't.

It uses blacklists, word filters, etc. You could always set it up and allow the spam through tagged as spam, the spam goes into a spam can for later manually filtering if you need to. or to search if you're missing something.

That's what worries me the most about enabling SPAM filters... false positives.
I can't afford to have something go missing.

    Me too Zap.

How do I know if something that isn't spam is deleted - am I informed if something is deleted from the server and have the chance of reading the email?

By default it will simply mark the email as spam and still deliver it 'spam assassin' you actually have to turn the option on to delete the email w/o sending it to you.

NP, you can also tell it what to mark the email as. Changing the subject so that you can set a rule in your email client.

I use Spam Asasin too.. I just make it alter the subject then have a filter in TB to move it out of my way, I sort through it every once in a while. I haven't had a non-spam email marked as spam yet.

I tried to use it, but it interfered with my Contact Us script, so I had to disable Spam Assasin....I still get penny stock tips and long lost Nigerian relatives leaving me millions.....

That doesn't help me much cause they are always from a new email address, never the same one twice.

Did you try tweaking it? It comes set at like 5, you can put it to 10. While the higher up you go the less spam is blocked, the less chance of you losing something. You can also put whitelist items in it to make certain your contact us script is not effected.

True, but they don't seem to send more than one from the same address, just my luck.

You can use a program like Spam Arrest, but you have to approve each sender before you get their mail.
