Thread: No Budget - No traffic.

Anyone have suggestions on how a person can increase traffic to their site with absolutely no budget for advertising.....?

What kind of site is it?
If it's a blog just write, write, write like crazy and get Stumbling and Digging and all that jazz.
Also keep an eye out for free directory submissions, blog posts and similar - if someone offers snatch their hand off!

It's a free web space/web host directory.

I've stumbled, I've del.icio.us'ed - yet it isn't bringing in any traffic.

( side not - on another site I stumbed I got 80 singles for a single day and
nothing after - which made me wonder if it was worthwhile traffic)

Who needs an advertising budget?

Set up a blog on the domain, blog about Hosting, post to feeds etc etc, gather back links with the correct anchor and description, do your on-site SEO correctly then BAM!!

Your ranking in the search engines with no financial outlay.

SOL means Sh-- out of luck.

I spend $0 on advertising and get all my traffic free from search engines.

The more links you have to your site, the more traffic you will get from SE's.

Trust me when I say there are thousands of ways to generate back links however it is best to specialize in 10-20.

I joined entrecard for a new site of mine to see how it works and stuff, I've gotten the most traffic out of it compared to anything else I've done so far. I'm trying to see how well I can do without spending.

I'm with alot of others. I don't spend to get any traffic just work the methods listed, SEO, blogging, article writing, forums would be great for a hosting directory...think of where your clients would go and get there! I guarantee you it is possible to get traffic without money...its more the dedication than money IMHO that gets the traffic.

I agree with KingPin, there is no need for a budget to create your own site or a blog, as long as you know how to create one and SEO. It was guaranteed money in return without investment..

Some realy good ideas here

You need to try anything you can think of! Youtube, metacafe, anything! Myspace, facebook, bebo, yuwie. Maybe find a few good mates who you know post in forums and get them to post your link in their signature. Maybe giving them free access or something you can offer them! All the best with it!

I agree, try everything.

There are literally hundreds of different ways to get traffic and by experimenting with each one, you will be able to find out which one works best for you.

After you have found 5-10 different ways that work for you, you just do the same methods however on a larger scale and more often.

Remember that getting visitors in the first place is much harder than getting visitors to return again and again so make a site worth visiting.

To make a site worth visiting, find out what your users want, give them lots and lots of what they want and do it in a way better than your competitors.

For my newest project, I will be spending 90% of the time working on the actual website (i.e. building community by writing 4-5 articles every day and contributing in forum etc) and only 10% will be on SEO.

I got some sites with joomla on it(wich is free)
And then i put some funny images on it, and some link exchanges, and now i have like 300/600 visitors a dat,,

Adding a blog is great advice, but you should at least start by submitting to the seo friendly directories. info.vilesilencer.com is great place to start.

On my site I have Digg, Delicious, furl, Magnolia, Stumbleupon, Google and Yahoomyweb sorta wondered what they were for lol but cant use them as our blogs are all closed to the public.

SEO can be totally free if you know how to optimize your site for better SERP ranking.

There are also other ways to market your site free - forum and blog participation, classified ads, articla marketing, etc.

I did not spend any centavo on my blogs.. but still, I have lots of visitors..
creating a blog is one of the best thing you can.. you can also do some link baiting.. and also follow what others said most of them are professionals..

Here is a SEO i.e. Search engine optimization which really give a large traffic without a large investment .
SEO is the practice for increasing your website traffic. And many of the tools used here are free.

I try to follow this advice, it seems to be working for me, also I dont have money to pay for advertising

I get around things by banner exchange with other sites, youtube videos and putting my addy into them. Myspace as well, but its a lot of work, but Im lucky I have a great bunch of people who are staff. Also facebook, just find someone who lives on there and get them to use your address and look for friends. Also Myspace people are adding me everyday, which is great.

you can do it by yourself by link building, the posted suggestions above are true, link building is a good way to promote your site without spending money.

Its just a matter of prioritizing your goals...

If you want immediate and faster traffic - opt for paid advertisments. If you ahve the luxury to have less traffic for a start, free traffic generation could be an option.

Almost all the best methods involve no money . Do some forum postings and get some back links up . Then the usual stuff social bookmarking sites etc .

1) Safelists-They are free for the regular memberships and it sends your ad to thousands of people. Most don't read them though but I have gotten many signups from them. The key is that you have to receive hundreds of emails per day and should set up a yahoo email account just for receiving those. You don't have to read them you can bulk delete them. Usually there are solo ads that you can click on like gotsafelist that will give you hundreds of points so you don't have to click on the emails you get to get points. Make sure you put your website link in your safelist ad for people to click on.

2) Automatic traffic exchanges will get lot's of hits to your website but most people don't even look at them they just let their computer run up views for themselves. But you do usually get traffic that Alexa measures to make your website look more important when people check your alexa traffic ranking.

3) Manual traffic exchanges- You have to usually click on a symbol to prevent cheating and wait 20 or 30 seconds while you see a website. It takes a lot of hours to do but the traffic is much better because the other people looking at your website in exchange have to wait 30 seconds while looking at your website. You can also purchase manual traffic but I haven't tried that because it is very expensive.

4) FFA pages are called free for all pages and they are pages you can put your ad up for free.

5) Free classified ads-Just like it says. Some people read them most don't but you never know when someone may read your ad and buy from your website.

All the above I used for several years to keep my budget down. But now I mainly use paid advertising because it is a lot faster and the results are better.

Writing a load of articles and selectively submitting them always helps.

If you are short of budget there are thousand of free article directories and directories where you can submit your site for free. Submit it to social bookmarking and create a blog that is related to your site.
