Thread: Web will run out of IP Addresses

The "father" of the internet has warned that the web will run out of IP addresses by 2010, saying the web does not have enough unique codes that allow computers to communicate with each other.

Vint Cerf, the "father" of the web, said when the internet protocol (IP) addresses do run out, the connectivity of the internet will be damaged and many computers will be unable to go online.

Hello IPv6 then

They say this, but I was once told that there is the equivalent of 1 IP address for every Square inch on the earth and that would be a lot of IP's.

no way, there will be another set of numbers for the new series of computers.

Configuring router will be diff with ipv6 ...... esp. remembering the ip address.....

It's difficult enough for me to remember all the IP ddresses I have to remember.
With IPv6, I'm going to have to carry a list.

You know, this reminds me of the whole doomsday 2k thing eight years ago. If it is true then they will find a fix for long before it becomes an issue.

I remember that one supposedly all our computers were going to get confused with the year 2000 and blow a fuse bringing the world to a standstill as is usually the case it never happened.

There are infinite numbers .

Under the current system there is 4,294,967,296 IP addresses if any one wanted to know!

Yet the Mayans didn't predict their own down fall.

na no way there can just ad an exta number or 2 on the end of an ip we have all ready and plus there is some many ways you can order each number this is just not going to happen

I think the ip4 has 32 million options, ip6 has much much more
we wont be running out of ip's ever

I am sure we will be okay. Some geek will figure out a way to get more.

There won't be any problem.

Applications built with Visual Studio 2008 are already sending the IPv6 during web requests.
