Red face MySpace to lay off 30 percent of staff

    Hi,

This is my first post to the forum, it’s very informative and enjoyable really.

According to Routers, Myspace will cut its staff by 30 percent. As you can guess, Facebook and Twitter are very powerful competitors of myspace. There are many more competitor in online community industry and I wonder which one will become most powerful. Any predictions?

Bad times for Myspace, Facebook took over their US leadership last week. I wonder if they will ever be able to recover. Their music efforts are really good.

I think facebook and twitter both are very powerful in social networking media. Most of every one are now on this two social networking site. You can use it also for SEO point of view.

Myspace has been dying for a while now. Maybe it's just the people I know on there, but it seems a lot of people are deleting their accounts or just never logging in...:/ and I know a lot of people who used to be really into Myspace (well, the customization side of it at least). It's no wonder they have to cut staff.

It's a shame, they are making a lot of positive changes there, additions and so on.

It's still a great place for music though - finding new bands, listening to music on there, etc. I'd say thats the part they have got right.

The "teenager stigma" is one of the reasons why Myspace is dying and Facebook's unique appeal is one of the reasons why it is growing. Not to mention that Myspace has got weak spam filters that bomb the user with friend invites from spammers, as well as misleading user pages that direct the user toward adult sites. Facebook anyone??

yes most of they lay offs were in europe those staff theirs about 3,000 workers still. You have to remember they laid off some about 1,000 but 4,000 workers is a lot for jest the myspace web site kind of surprising until you study the issue and slowly but surely facebook is gaining a lot more members.

I think the trend will be towards microblogging sites (like Twitter) in the future..

Twitter has more potential for business than social sites like facebook and myspace.

myspace (or cryspace as i like to call it), like much of the internet, is too cluttered, saturated, and raw to compete with facebook and twitter in my opinion. plus with more professional networking websites popping up i'd say it's on its way out.

Ditto.. MySpace has it's uses for a certain demographic but overall, I don't consider it a serious marketing contender on the whole. That's not to say money can't be made, just that it doesn't have the wide appeal Facebook or Twitter might have IMHO.

I want to know which Internet Marketers do you trust and value their opinion? This can't turn into a bashing session. Remember, the question is who do you *trust*, not distrust. Hopefully, this will save all of us some money and frustration. I'll start off, in no particular order:

Perry Belcher & Ryan Deiss--Perry's a little controversial and flamboyant, but no one knows PPC marketing better, and now social media with his recent launch, which I couldn't afford. Ryan's just a nice guy (which I like, some won't) and very successful. I have found anything they touch is top quality.

Howie Schwartz--consistently delivers quality stuff, though I've wondered how he's a part of StomperNet's faculty with his blackhat branding.

Jeff Johnson--expensive to buy but very good

    Anything from StomperNet

Robert Plank--I get momentum just listening to him, though I disagree with his "good enough is good enough" perspective. This guys knows a lot.

Dan Theiss--this guy is the authority on SEO, and some of his stuff is freehttp://www.inowweb.com
