Yahoo search will be powered by Microsoft's Bing, for at least the next 10 years.

Under the deal Microsoft will acquire an exclusive 10-year licence to Yahoo's core search technologies. It is also able to integrate Yahoo search technologies into its existing web search platforms.

In return Yahoo will keep 88 per cent of the revenue from all search ad sales on its site for the first five years of the deal, and will have the right to sell ads on some Microsoft sites.

Yes, Bing will be a bigger threat to Google, but the question is, how much of a threat? The reason for the threat is that together Yahoo and Bing will have anywhere from 25% - 28% of market share so it's substantial, but in the meantime will Google's share of the market go up?

The other thing is that Microsoft's adCenter may actually increase in business because by having two main SEs you create a market where businesses will want to advertise in both SEs which will in turn create greater relevancy with search. The relevancy would be directly related to the commercial side because of the ads. I think for them to really have a shot at making adCenter work they will have to develop something like Adsense with a slightly greater payout and make it available internationally.

Hmm.. Google has been the leading search engine all this time.. I think it would not be easily be threatened by the collaboration of Microsoft and Yahoo although there might be some adverse effects to Google.. All that Google has to do is to introduce more improvements to its services and the threats would be over..

I think the immediate threat to Google's revenue could be quite substantial. Put it another way, some analysts think that it will affect Google while others do not. However, none thinks it will be good for Google.

Many advertisers do not use MSN adcenter at all and some have dumped Yahoo altogether because of low traffic. However, Microsfot and Yahoo combined will be a different matter. Since most advertiser have a fixed budjet, this could well take a good chunk of revenue from Google. Morover, if it really gets nasty, Microsoft has got much more money than Google to throw around.

But Still i think google is big search engine, Yahoo can't come easily on google place as early. google applications and google things more user friendly people like more than others

Google has different products to target users.I use all these with search engine gmail, blogs, adsense, news, notebook, docs, igoogle etc. So people come to google for everything they offer. So bing and yahoo cant decrease user of google.

Google will be fine, Bing will likely fail. If you want to search the interwebz, google is the way to go, unless someone comes up with a truly innovative search engine.

Still, Google's search engine is the main source of traffic. What Bing and Yahoo are trying to do is to decrease market share of the Google search engine.

Personally, I feel that we need a new space for online advertising and I hope Bing provides that. Google, great though it is, has a stranglehold/monopoly on PPC. Yahoo! has failed to make much of a dent and Google remains dominant. Having a more even market space for businesses to advertise on will drive cost the CPC and open up the space for the SME sector - a good thing for all.

I dont think so.
Surpassing Google or even equalling them wont be an easy task for Bing or anyother search engine and with their new addittions, Google is not even ready to give up their position.

Well even so, I still think they will face an uphill battle against the big G

I think they should need to join hands together in order for them to stay in cut throat competition with google ...And I am pretty much sure that us searcher will benefit in this competition

I think that Bing will be only #3 after Google and Yahoo, it will never fight such giants.

I don't believe they will ever beat Google, because Google is the giant in the search engines industry and it will keep its position for long time. This "fight" is profitable for us, webmasters because they are coming up with new features more often.
