Thread: Your browser?

What browsers do you guys use?

I know when I've designed webpages, Opera has always given me trouble on messing
around with the table layouts etc, which doesnt happen when I preview the site in IE.

    Does firefox do the same?

Yeah often I have trouble with Firefox for aligning the backgrounds in tables properly to the images next to them. It's a little confusing, but what I do is create 3 seperate colomns: one for the corner image, one for the image which is set as a background and can expand and skrink when content is changed around, and the last image is actually a flipped version of the image in the 1st column. When I try to align these up, the ends don't meet properly vertically.

I might try to get a screenshot of what I'm trying to achieve so I can show you all what I mean

Have you tried Maxthon. I think you'd be pleasantly surprised with all the power that's there and it's even based on IE, so that means you still get all those custom cursor changes when you visit web sites which have them.

Changing the browser leaves the problem intact :) When designing, it's you obligation to make the template work all the time, as much that is possible. And that's why I have IE, Firefox and Opera installed. But when it comes to surfing, I choose Firefox with no doubt. OK, I'm sure we all know why I'm not using IE, but some people might ask "why not Opera"? I don't really have any specific reason, but I feel much better when using Firefox :)

Yeah, that's why I spend hours staring blankly at my laptop's screen trying to figure out why the same web page looks different in Firefox, IE and Opera. It truly is frustrating, but I do want to guarantee that as many users can view my web sites properly. I even try to cater for older browsers such as Netscape, although it's still hard to have a fully compatible web site with such old browsers.

It's usually Internet Explorer causing problems for me :) Firefox and Opera have the same approach to the CSS code. But IE has to use the non-standard box model and mess everything up :D

Firefox FTW...it is by far the best. Microsoft tried to close the gap with IE7 but then the new version of Firefox came out and completely destroyed any hope of IE being a decent browser. Opera is not as good as firefox but still better then IE.

I love FireFox. Ever since I have changed I have never got any pop-ups like I used to get with Internet Explorer. I also like it how you can have multiple tabs in the one window.

I still get popups occasionally using Firefox from sites such as Newgrounds.com. However it is Maxthon that has fully prevented any sort of popups immediately and without any direction as to which popups to blocks. It just block 'em all which is a good thing!

Are you able to have multiple tabs in the one window like FireFox?

Any decent browser will have to have that. Microsoft finally done it with IE7 but still not as good as firefox.

Yes, multiple tabs, customisable skins and there's even a nifty tool which you can assign programs to open up at startup when you start up Maxthon. So say you used Dreamweaver nearly everytime. You would simply add the program to the customisable list and voila, Dreamweaver will open up when you open up Maxthon. There's a few other options, other than just startup too.

That's good cause the more users they get, the larger their community is. I think that Maxthon is definitely a better alternative to IE. It's just a shame it's based on IE, cause I'm tempted to uninstall IE for good.

I just wish this were the case :( Internet Explorer still has the majority of the market, mostly because people don't know how to, or don't want to change it. That's why Firefox is being used by approx. 20% of internet users.

Are you able to uninstall IE? I thought it screwed everything up if you did.

Well if you look at people that actually know stuff about the internet and diffrent browsers and thing I htink you will find that no 1 uses IE. Most use Fiefox and some use Opera and Maxthon. Only problem with Maxthon is it uses a crap rendering engine which is also used in IE. There are 2 main rendering engines but I forgot there names and firefox, opera and other borwsers use the same 1 wile IE and some other browsers use the other

I presume that you'd like the download page, so here it is: http://www.maxthon.com/download.htm

There's also a few other alternative to IE, such as Slim Browser and Avant Browser, but I like Maxthon.

Btw, what do you mean by rendering Dean, cause isn't that related to 2D and 3D graphics?

Webpages also need to be rendered. Like the html code or the javascript becoming into a webpage that you can see.

Firefox 99% of the time. The only time I even bother with IE is when I'm designing and need to check just how badly IE screws everything up.

I use mainly MSIE. But in the past serveral months, our computers have been infected by an extremely nasty Chinese trojan that targets it. It has proved almost impossible for us to get rid of it. Only Kaspersky can detect it but it does not eradicate it completely. On our infected computers we either use Opera or Fast Browser. The latter works with MSIE but seems not to trigger the trojan. Firefox does not help much in this situation as MSIE is started automatically by the trojan if Firefox is used.

IE and Firefox... although mainly IE cause thats what comes installed by default - microsoft is actually in the process of being sued by smaller companies for being too strong and pushing other companies out of the market. I believe real and another software company are in the process of taking Microsoft to court for having media preinstalled, hence not giving people 'choice' more the ability of media player being conveniant!!!
