Thread: Upset with DMOZ

I asked DMOZ to kindly update my directory listing because since the time I was listed our site when through several updates, site changes and design template changes. Plus our content grew immensely, the site description we had no longer was applicable to my site.

I wrote a 2 page explanation of all the site changes made, and whoever the editor was only add two words to my description which is only 1 sentence lone. When I see other site description in the same category as mine with 5 sentence long descriptions.

What is up with that?:annoyed:

I have kindly asked DMOZ more than a few times to include my websites. Sadly, i have never managed it. It is like an unpenetrable fortress.

Don't complain too vociferously to them or they might kick you out altogether.

Agree. It is almost impossible to get in to DMOZ these days

But Now a days, I have been reading articles everywhere about corrupt editors damaging the overall mission of DMOZ.

People try their best to become an editor, then negatively damage other sites listing by poorly describing them, removing them, or changing their categories.

Why would someone do that?

I have heard of people trying to become editors to get their site included. I suppose it is one way someone could damage the reputation of a competitor. Maybe DMOZ is a victim of its own success or the value that Google gave it.

Perhaps, but wasnt DMOZ created as an alternative to Yahoo Directory? I have also noticed that alot of individual webmasters also rely heavily on DMOZ to provide their sites with external references and links.

The same exact DMOZ listing is the same Exact listing that will show on the thousands of private webmasters sites.

This is why I was so concerned about my DMOZ description.

I cannot recall but it is a cheaper alternative i will say that for them. Why on earth Yahoo charge $299 for inclusion i will never know. I suspect it is to filter out the junk but it is still pretty steep especially as it is non-refundable. If the site is adult related then it is a $600 hit.

IMO DMOZ has no clout now and is a waste of time. If you are list it a just a backlink like any other backlink.

Yea, I heard that they charge you the $299 and that does not even guarantee inclusion.

They can deny you and still get to keep your money.

I am sorry but I am not financial stable or at the point where I can drop $299 on a gamble.

With that I can buy me the new wii pro that is coming out, in all black.

Ha ha, if it was a straight choice yeah i'd go with the wii pro definitely.

Lol oh man it is nice, all black and it comes already with wii fit, wii sports and wii resort, plus and extra controller and the motion sensor plus

DMOZ is the source which is able to increase reputation of a website, and no more.

I have really bad experience i am trying since a long time but my site is not listed in DMOZ .

Come on people:

Open your eyes, DMOZ is so diluted its not even worth the electricity your computer uses pulling up their page. They didnt make the top 100 most visited websites, and I expect them to be a forgotten name in the near future.

IMO if they dont have some serious changes over there, they are doomed.

DMOZ is over-rated. I cant beleive that people still think that its a good site, the average person has never heard of it before or even cares, its google and yahoo thats important.

A Listing in DMOZ is the only way to get a Listing in Google Directory, which gives you two high pagerank backlinks from big google itself in both

and

http://directory.google.com/Alpha/Top"....

Also many reputable and trusted sites use DMOZ listings to make their own listings and directories of websites and they use DMOZ based categories.

It is impossible to get into DMOZ because the editors are corrupt and they are adding only their own website or even worst, they try to damage other sites. It is a famous directory but not for long time.
I try to get listed with a quality site but still no luck.
