I used to use Avast Antivirus and Comodo Firewall... They are both free and seemed to do the job.
When I bought my new laptop, it came with McAfee already installed but you have to pay for that one... When the years subscription runs out, I'll go back to the free ones mentioned.

I have used AVG for years and have not experienced any problems. But then I am still on Windows XP.

hey...
use kaspersky, it is the best antivirus software...
Kaspersky is great but if you lower PC specs, it might not work properly and slow your computer down. I am using Avira for it is just light to moderate as compared to the others.
I use Kasper, It has really worked for me.
I advise you to consult cyber cafe owners in your local area about Antivirus Software, most of the cyber cafes use strong and effective antivirus. I think it would be good for you.
Mine favorite is Avast
Comodo is pretty good as a free alternative. Eset security for a paid one, very light doesn't eat so much resources like others do.
I'm using Avira. I like it cause it doesn't bother me to purchase the regular version or something like that like most other free anti virus do. They keep on bugging you
