Thread: Highway robbery or what?

Ok, so I am pretty good in my writing ability as I have my lovely wife as my editor.

I recently had someone pay me for an article I had written. I can write a business proposal/plan that'll get you the capital you need.

Anna tells me I write sales letters that'll charm the socks off of CEO's. Well with that experience, I get to charge more. Why am I complaining?

I was on DP and this guy wants a 5000 word document and you want to know how much he wants to pay for it?

He told me that he could get it for $40-$70.00.

That's ludicrous!

I don't get why these people are willing to work for so little!

DP....the site for the morons of the net who want everything free or damn close.
He wants to pay one lousy penny per word?

When it comes to good articles, the rate is closer to 25 pennies per word.

But some idiots will work too damn cheap for fear they will not get business.

I write reviews, but for those I get $25 minimum for 250 words.
If not, I don't write them.

DP, people won;t pay that rate at all...or at least I never found one.
Other forums, people expect to pay that or more for good reviews.

If you plan to sell or offer your writing skills on DP, pick a price and stick with it.

To me, it's the teenagers and people from countries where that's a lot of money to them, causing us to lose business, they charge much less and for most of us, that price would be a rip-off to work for. Luckily for me, I've been chosen over those who will charge much less because of the quality of my work, which I am known for.

I was like WTF?? I didnt say that but was thinking it.

Do these buyers understand that there is alot more than typing that goes in this?

That is why....

You price something on DP, there will be at least 2 others who will immediately price theirs lower than yours.

He is not worthy of your time or response, stop corresponding with him, try other forums, many other forums, post your sales thread all over the internet.

I don't consider a sales thread spam, so long as you followed each forums specific rules in order to post it. That's how you get out there and known, you market yourself. No one can find you if you only post your offer on two forums.

We allow sales threads after 20 posts, offering to write articles is not spam, it's getting work.

I guess I need to expand more huh?

What I was thinking, is not having the same message posted everywhere.

I wanted to see if I could get some of the jobs at Elance and such but that is way monopolized. I still try though

I've found many of my connections/clients via expanding outside my bubble.

I need to get to these relationships :-)

Serious people will pay for quality writing. The last time I had articles written I paid far more than the standard going rate, I however cared more for quality than the overall cost.

Yeah, but I am retired.
Think of all the time spent on forums, writing posts.
If I could get one penny per word for all that, I would be happy.

Writing is a craft and a skill. The more you practice it, the better you will become.

Remember that stuff called "grammar?" Well, turns out it has a purpose. Be sure you write correctly so your audience clearly understands you.

Get a nice pen to physically write and act with while you channel thoughts and ideas out on to paper in the form of words. Even if it takes a fountain pen or a really nice expensive pen, it doesn't matter, get a tool to help you conjure your thoughts.

I definitely agree with Iowa. Also another note, even though WTF is pretty lax, other forums are not and most people will just what you write on the forum when hiring a writer.
