Link Building for SEO

Link building is the key for an effective SEO campaign. This works best for PR and SERP. Always provide useful and relevant content in your websites niche as this will help in quality organic linking - sites will naturally link to your site once they see unique and helpful information in your site. Keep in mind that the more targeted backlinks you build for your site, the more likely it will bring in the right visitors that could make the conversions for better revenue. You do targeted link buidling for fast and long term traffic to your sites.

There are several ways to build links. Here are just some of the following:

Directory Submissions
Blog and Forum Postings
Social Bookmarking
Classified Ads
Article Marketing
Link Exchange (with relevant sites)
Link Baits
Etc. etc.

What are your thoughts? What kind of link building method do you use and how effective has it been?

I haven't done much so far, I'm just starting to get into link building. Up till now it's been mostly customers adding my link to the bottom of their site.

Real and Substantial link building means getting really high quality links from relevant authority sites and preferably within actual content (not footers or side bars). Just 1 of these types of links can earn you more link juice than a few hundred directory, blog comment, forum sig, or any form of easy to obtain high volume links. They are not easy to get but are well worth the time and effort it could take to get just one of them.

One of the best ways to get them is to contact the site owner and offer them unique content. Perhaps an article or something that becomes a new page on their site. Preferably a static page, not a blog post that gets buried deeper and deeper into site architecture with age. In offering this content you get to embed a link within the page and that page links to you and not another half a dozen sites asking for links.

Make them want the content. It should be well written. It should be relevant to their site and it should fill a gap in their current content. You should also do a bit of keyword research and write the article in such a way as to attract a nice amount of long tail traffic to that page.

A few of those kinds of links plus the usual directory links, link trades, some blog posts and even some bought and paid for links (shhhhh) will round out your link profile and help to secure good rankings.

Good link bait should get you a number of these kinds of links. But link bait is relative to the topic of your site.

I'm not going to jump over into blackhat for this...so without going there, there's still more than just forums/blogs to post to. Try galleries. Many are on .edus, and are not spammed shitless. Shoutboxes are also a potential link drop.

I've considered many things(yeah, he REALLY bugs me), including a blog badge that just said "Certified: Better than John Chow", and leaving it for anyone who wants it(since isn't everyone better than John Chow? I mean really...his own satirist(John Cow) is even better!)

^ No follow simply means that you don't get backlinks. Do follow means you get backlinks.

Nope. Nofollow means that no PR juice is passed on and dofollow means the opposite. Nofollow links still show up as a backlink.

jk but no follow is a big pain in the butt. some people do link exchanges and dont even know the link they get has no follow put in it after a week or so. shady tactics from some people.
