The Google Webmaster Tool is not listed there as well as Yahoo Site Explorer

For me the best way to check number of backlinks to your site is:

Go to http://yahoo.com search for linkdomain:yoursite.com

Google will always take very long to display actual backlinks, and they will omit many backlinks as well.

Here is one I use to check for edu. at yahoo

linkdomain:yourdomain.com AND (site:.edu OR site:.gov) -site:yourdomain.com

I use yahoo's "linkdomain:" and google's "site:" to check my backlinks.

not saying this is a perfect list, if you guys have more sources then feel free to add as this could be useful for others as well.

You can also monitor your link building efforts as Google picks them up via Google Alerts. Since Google will only show 1000 links via the link: variable, this can be a good way to see change.

Backlinkwatch.com is pretty awesome imo tells you pr and how many other links on the page your sharing.

Google webmaster tool is the best..

Yahoo Site Explorer usually gives the most result of your backlinks...

I use sitening.com for some things like this, it's pretty good for free

I use backlinkwatch.com for checking my backlinks.

My favorite new tool is seoquake.com, a plugin for firefox, It gives you literally anything you want to know about a site right on the toolbar, age, whois, backlinks from google, yahoo, msn etc. I love it!

I've been using backlinkwatch and seo centro for checking.

Just use Google Webmaster tools (google it). They have a service where you can see how many sites (the sites Google indexes) links back to the page you specify.

Its always handy to have a quick and easy tool to check backlinks i used to use submit express a lot but that has been down for a while so i have been using market leap instead.

Actually, the correct Yahoo query is

linkdomain:mysite.com -site:mysite.com

make sure not to put spaces between the colon and your domain name. The -site:mysite removes all internal links from the query so you get the real accurate count.

I'm using googleanalytics and submitexpress for backlink watch.
