Thread: What are some ways that you build backlinks?

What are some ways that you build free backlinks? I do the whole forum sig and blog commenting thing but was wondering what everyone else does

Create articles regarding your website and submit it to some article submission sites.

Im not asking HOW to create backlinks, I already know how. Im asking what people do themselves cause everyone has their own methods

I do blog commenting, forum siggy, directory submissions, submitted a couple of articles to digg and propeller, created a squidoo lens, then i saw my competitors page and he had 60000 backlinks !!!!! Let me down for a while but now im all good
One thing i did yesterday, i was submitting a theme and entering my url as the authors URl and demo, going to see if its going to work...got my crappy traffic and some backlinks,im thinking about sponsoring templates, or buying templates for $40~$50 with full rights and sponsoring them myself....

The only way I actually know how to build backlinks is blog commenting, forum signatures, and social network websites really, lol. Yup, I need help.

Right now, my site has like 70 some backlinks just from forum posting and link exchange, and one backlink from Digg, haha. I am going to be adding a lot more content and then building backlinks very soon though.

Someone earlier mentioned Squidoo.

I joined them and created a lens (as their pages are known by). My lens is PR3 with Google, ranked in the Top20 in its category, and I`ve got a fair amount of links to my other sites from it. They aren`t "nofollow" which is the main thing.

I think I'm going to remove that rule since there are forums that touch on sexual advice. As long as its not porn lol

dum question, but what is link baiting ???

Link Baiting is writing an article that goes across the social channels and gets picked up by several bloggers - front page of digg / sphinn / propeller / etc... and then ends up with thousands of back links...

The best in the industry for link bait articles is Michael Gray over at wolf-howl.com I won't get into prices but lets say... you better have some scratch to get started

And to get IBL's give something away for free... I've been very lucky with doing some of these demo videos... (one for onebox results / RSS to Html / Gmail how to add an alias / etc)

people find them useful, blog about it... which gives me a link back and links w/ no-follow on them still count

Directory Submission,Social Bookmarking and yahoo answers are an ideal way to build traffic.

My favorite method is signature links. You'll get lots of backlinks as well as visitors to your site using this method.

The method that I like the most and also the one that I use the most is blog commenting however in the near future I will experiment with a number of different ways.

I highly recommend writing articles and placing your site content on those articles.

Writing articles bring huge traffic to your website and blogs.

Try searching in Google for article directories and choose the first 10 listings of article directories.

just like others I also do dir submission, forum posting, blog comments, bookmarking, article submission,blogging..

I think all one use approx same method for link building.

Difference are only that some can search suitable place for his site easily and some one can't.

Thats why we see here lots of response like ........ i dont believe on directory submission, and some one tell that directory submission is great for me

Basic rules of link building is forever and effective as Manual directory submission, manual article submission, blog submission and forums but now a days social book marking sites also play a big role in link building

R u sure that paid links are seo friendly ?

Some times paid links can be cause of spamming

yes you are because they might violate the rules set by Google

Where does everybody get this google has rules against buying or selling links?

Man, it is plain idiotic to do so.

I think this mainly applies to sites such as bidding directories, word cloud sites etc (basically all those spammy ones)

If you have a really good quality, 100% unique content site that google loves, selling a few links in the side bar will not hurt your ranking.

It is mainly newbies that make this mistake because they find it hard to differentiate between "bad" sites.

Here's another tip: Try answering questions on Yahoo! Answers. I have a travel guide to Toronto, Canada, and I answer questions about Toronto with links back to relevant pages. I usually answer about 3-5 questions per day (they take like two seconds), and I get about 20-40 visitors more per day. Which isn't a lot, but it really depends on how many questions you answer. Since my site is a travel site, I usually just look around in the travel section of the site.

Press release i also a way of building backlinks. Though its not done primarily for getting links, but it is possible that other webmasters, copy and use the contents provided and in return, provide a link back to the source, so they might help with getting new backlinks.
