1) Commenting on others blogs (No spam please)

When you add a comment on a blog, they get indexed and you get a backlink.
In the comment field, enter your name, website URL, email address and comment. Please DO NOT include a link in the comment or it will be marked as a spam by akismet or the administrator. Comment on useful blogs and not on all blogs which you find. Comment something useful rather than commenting “wow thanks”, “nice tips” , “thanks nice post” ..
2) Directory Submission

Submit your site to directories and free directories, they might cost a bit, but they are good, find some free and paid directories here
These directories better your PR and increase your backlinks
3) Link Exchange

If you are new to the term Link Exchange then please read this post about Doing link exchange
4) Participate in Forums

Use your site link with a nice anchor text on the signatures of Forums. Keep posting on forums and they would probably increase your backlinks. Don’t make them spammy as they would be deleted by the moderators there at the forums.

5) Bait your link

This might be a new term for you, Link baiting means creating a controversy and an interesting post in your site and telling about it to others on forums, this will help in increasing backlinks and also other will talk about your blog, so backlinks keep increasing !

Nice article..the only thing i don't agree with is "Commenting on others blogs (No spam please)"
I don't think this really gets u backlinks nowadays.....

If you use do-follow it does

#5 is just one of the ways to link bait. good post for beginners

More and more blogs are getting picky about the comments to their blogs.
Simply because most are just spam.

I get tons of comments held in moderation that are no more than other blogs that post a snippet of my post.
Kind of stupid to accept them, as they are just a snippet of my post with a link back to their blog, which has a link back to my blog.
And in the majority of times, the name they give as the author of the blog post is never mine!

I totally agree. There is a massive difference between spam comments and quality comments. I always take the time to read the actual blog post and make a decent comment about it.

And keep this in mind.
All those people that advertising their blog or blogs are no follow and want comments?
Or those that sell services to comment on networks of blogs?
They are mostly SPAM blogs to begin with and who would really want their site link on spam blogs?

Seriously, Thats a huge pain in the ass, Really annoying, Use the akismet plugin, reduces your work atleast !

blog comments still does increase backlinks but im now into bookmarking instead

Link bait is also a good idea though it takes time and effort...

i follow this method increased the back link.

- add your site to search engines and directories
- participate in forums( like forums.digitalpoint.com) with your link in the signature.
- exchange links with high page rank sites.
- comment (put your link in the comment) in high page rank blogs.
- social book marking.

The thing is, if your post is giving others benefits, people might quote your post and put them somewhere else. An honest bloggers knew how to props credits to the real authors.

Yes, In my blog also there are some posts which are not written by me, I just leave a link to Original Post in the Bottom of every post which I don't write, this is also an effective way to get backlinks

They are cheap backlinks, not quality ones, doesn't count much, but it's OK

this is not necessarily true . Akismet marks a link in a post as spam , based on how that link is marked all over the blogosphere .

the link has to be relevant and necessary for elaborating your point - and the blog admin might just as well allow it , if it benefits other readers.

One of the prime ways to increase popularity of your blog is regularity .

Well, Akismet keeps it in moderation queue if link added.

Also comments like "Nice post thanks" are added in Spam

Guys what are some good blog directories out there? The ones that are dofollow? Any suggestions?

I usually submit blogs before to general web directories and they did just good in terms of SEO. Was wondering if there are blog directories that you could recommend

Commenting on your blog posts is also a great way to drive direct backlink.

And also try updating your blog, the newer the better, for link baits....

Commenting on blogs is a good idea even if they are no followed.
Bloggers like to keep an eye on who comments on their blogs. I f you post something relevant and interesting, they might have a look at your profile and visit your site.

It seems there is a new tendency where bloggers are now removing the no follow commands from blogs, they feel that they are also getting screwed by this no follow nonsense.
So find those blogs and post comments, but please add something useful, no spamming, and bloggers will love you for it!
