I created a few great websites and then just started contacting the top people in Google's results pages for my keyword phrases. There are hardly any working e-mail addresses and no one is really responding with my requests.

Try getting backlinsk to your site, by submitting your site to link directories, doing the social networking method, posting on forums with having your site in your signature. Try using Yahoo Answers to get soem traffic to your site and backlinks.

Also try writing articles with your link in the author, byline and submitting them to article sites for others to use, look for blogs with do-follows on them to either post useful information or do a guest post on. As a webmaster I can tell you, I hate people that just randomly email me for a link and will ignore them. You need to give them something that will attract their attention enough to even open an email, but I would say you'll have much better results with alternative link building methods as we have mentioned versus email begging.

There are plenty of other ways to get backlinks than exchanging links such as blog commenting, social bookmarking, forum posting and directory submission.

People who exchange links only care about three things: 1) your PR, 2) your traffic and 3) the quality of your site. Put yourself in the other persons position, they will only exchange links with you if they benefit from the exchange.

If you're still looking for link exchange partner go to webmaster forums under the category link exchange then start your search or create your own thread.

I can tell you it's tough to just email a webmaster out of the blue and get a link. It's best to build your site's reputation through the social scene and move from there. What topic does your site cover?

Keep at it you will get there in the end and while not many competitors will give you a hand up the ladder you will find the odd gem out there who will be happy to exchange with you regardless of pr if your site is new.

You really need to get some PR first. Most webmasters are reluctant to exchange links with a site that has no PR because it could indicate a banned site
