Thread: Title and Description...?

Hello,

I want your opinions regarding directory submission and link building. I want to know that while submitting a site to large number of directories should we change site's title and description or have the same? Please share your opinions.....

I would advise you to change them, but that even depends on the number of directories you going to submit your site at.

Make them as unique as possible, but beware, if you change them up to much Directories will just reject them and it will all be for nothing. I've ran into this myself, where I was trying some variation, but more and more, respectable directories require very specific descriptions and titles.

For example, some directories may not accept a submission that does not have the Title as the title of the site. Keyword stuffing is generally frowned upon. But, if you are just going after the dime-a-dozen directories, knock yourself out.

In my experience, any directory submission beyond a handful of respected sites, are a waste of time. Google doesn't like them and potentially can penalize you for doing too many too fast. Spend your time on more worthwhile things, rather than unused directories.

Yep. Change them. Put on some of your targeted keywords on the description and title. Make some variations with your title and description. I always do that on the sites that I handle.

Well put... this is surely the way to do it best however it does take time to do it this way.

Well, you do that with unique title and description and that should help your site. People are search in different keywords and title.

Make changes between the targeted keywords is good but otherwise always changing no use can not target any kwywords

Its and interesting question whether you should use the same anchor text for links or different ones.
I always look in Google Webmaster Tools at the 'What Google Sees' area as this tells me what google probably thinks my site is about. In the two key areas, inbound links and site content I ensure that my prime keywords are at the top of the list thinking that will enhance my search results on those keywords. I also wonder if mixing up the anchor text will dilute what Google thinks my site is about and make it weaker in all the keywords rather than strong in just a few.

I'd appreciated everyones thoughts on this.

Change them. Rotate keywords in your title.

Use different titles and descriptions

My advice is not to pay attention with those crappy directories.. there are a lot of free social bookmarking sites so why put your site on directories that most of their pages aren't indexed by search engines.. and based on my experience has no effect on your traffic..

(by the way not all of directories are a crap some of them are still decent like dmoz and yahoo directories etc.)

Title and descriptions variation are always beneficial for your site.

Try to change titles and descriptions after 50 or 100 or 150 submission. Variation also help you to target your keywords.

Change them, and try to use the keywords you wish to promote in the title you submit.

I usually switch the Title and Description for the Directory Submissions. Submitting with the same title and description looks like spamming the site. As many such directories are inter-linked with each other.

Its a better advice to switch between the Title and description. You can have around 5-10 different Submission titles and description that can be used.

Exactly rotate it with set of keyword you are targeting on serp.

YES change the Title and Description and submit your directory with 10+ Titles it's improved your SERPS.

I have always changed them slightly where possible.

I agree.. It's better to change it.. But don't spend to much time on directory submissions, because the result can take sometime especially in the free ones..

It is much better when linkbuilding whether from directories or other sources to rotate your keywords. For example I participate in many forums and I make sure to rotate the keywords within my sig I do the same when blog commenting and other marketing and have seen that even if I don't place a keyword/phrase in my hyperlink text as long as it is closley related I move up in the SERPs.

You can change your title and description yes i know that some time it is difficult to make them unique for every submission. But you can change them after few submission so you get the fast result for your site.

I do a few with the same title and description as the site to get those keywords going. Then from there I vary them for different directories to target different keywords.
