Thread: Which number to "trust"?

A online tool that I have used tells me that I have:

260 backlinks (64 domains and 56 IP's)

but

Yahoo (site adm.) tells me:

276 Yahoo Inlinks
Domains linking to Site: 31

and

Google (Webmaster Tool) tells me: 363

So ....... which number to "trust"?

Well Yahoo is telling you the links which it is counting and ranking your site in their serps for (so trust this one) and Google is telling you what they are counting and ranking your site for (so trust this one as well) The tool unless it is a major directory or index probably does not count the links by itself, but rather uses the first two or bing to find your inlinks (be a little wary, but don't discount the info). Anyway all three are legit, there is no exact number of backlinks unless you count them urself, if you create link bait and people begin linking to you then forget about keeping track of the exact number. Personally I only worry about which links Google and Yahoo think are important and count when decideing how high my site will be in the serps and the number differs greatly Google webmaster tools says my site makemoneyfree.comuv.com (in the sig) has 1200 backlinks and yahoo says around 9k backlinks. When I check my ranking in Yahoo I am thinking of the number they say and when I check my serps placement in Google I go off the links they show. Anyway I hope this was clear.

even yahoo and Google have different result.

it's just the ways you need to look at where the backlink from?
