Thread: How to define SEO targets

During my work at Wisitech I am often asked how much time will the SEO take in propelling a particular keyword to the top 10 rankings in Google.

I understand that it depends on competition and the popularity of the keyword and the required time can be highly variable but is there any particular mechanism through which such targets can be roughly defined. Help is deeply appreciated.

If it is less competitive then it means that it will not take long time to get high rank but this is certainly not the rule. If you fail to follow the rules carefully enough you might end up having a disastrous impact.

I would agree with the comments above. You cannot guarentee anything. What you can door is plan around a good web design, optimize the pages with good keyword rich content, and build an effective back link strategy.

There is no single mechanism that should be followed by everyone. The overall look and layout of the website is also a big help. It's easier to optimize an impressive site and drive traffic to it rather than a plain site with low-quality content.

It all depends on the keyword and its competitiveness.

You hit it the competitiveness of the keyword will define the length which first page will be possible. I have found using the inanchor:"key term" very helpful in determining the competition for a particular keyword since it shows the number of websites which actually optimize their link building for that term perhaps this will help you find your actual competition.

A mechanism? No.
A formula? Not really.

There are too many factors, many which have already been listed here. One I have not seen listed though is WHO. Who is adding content, building links, optimizing the content written and building a social following? This is most likely the most important factor to the equation.

The who will tell me quickly how soon someone might get highly ranked, if ever. Besides picking the right keywords (another major factor), the person responsible for doing it will have the largest impact on if and when it happens.

Proper SEO and content takes time and dedication. Some hire pros to do it, others do it themselves. But if the approach is do as little as you can to get ranked, it most likely will never happen.

Seriously. If you think you're going to score high fast for competitive keywords, think again. I've scored high for competitive keywords within a week just once in 11 years. The few other times I scored high took a year or more because of all the time it takes to do backlink building and quality link trades which are not only useful for me but also useful for web surfers reading the stuff.

I don't think there is such a way for you to calculate.Maybe you can draw a conclusion
if the course of SEO,and form your own rhythm of doing it.Any way you can do it well is
a good way.You just need to guarantee there is always a progress.Then you will benefit
much from it.

^ I think his pertaining to the right rules upon doing the right process in ranking. Yeah I agree that the less competitors has the BIG chance to rank in SE's.But of course you still need to build your site.

a good SEO doesn't guarantee that you will reach the top 1 spot in google, specially if you have a highly competitive keyword to optimize..

it will definitely take months and months of gaining backlinks from authority sites..

How can i increase my site unique domian backlink?

For Unique Bl , better is link exchange or link buying

I think targeting a variety of keywords, helps you to stay on top of the search engines.

And both the techniques are considered as good as crime by Google nowadays. That's not natural link building. Maybe link exchange in relevant niches may be overlooked, but if Google comes to know about link sales, that's really harmful.

I believe there is more than one formula. The information and knowledge is shared by everyone and also experience. But everyone has his own technique/method which is his/her formula.

Suppose that we're playing chess. As a chess master, you have your own techniques, methods or formulas. This is the same.

SEO is a strategical game between the machine (Google bot) and the human (SEO Specialist).

Finding out how long its going to take is something that you'll have to call on your experience to guage.
