Thread: Directory submission question?

How important is directory submission in the eyes of Google? I would like to know your opinions. I am using directory submission as one of the major method of promotion.

Google doesn't give you much for directory links in 'most cases' anymore.

Very few directories actually carry and weight.

well there are very few seo freindly directory which actually helps. Mostly directory submission generates traffic and few ranks to he eyes of search engien

Seriously no one have the answer beside the owner itself. Many people said Google do not give more weight to Directory anymore, but where is this info you heard from? Official blog from Google? I wonder to know also.

I have seen that directory submission itself brings about a PR of 3 from PR 0 in the past. I don't know about the current designs of Google. But I have seen a constant contribution from directory submission process in the past.

Directory submission gives backlinks. So, it's worth using like all other instruments in SEO. The top directories (Dmoz, Business.com and so on) will help greatly. The others are just backlinks.

Directory generate backlink and traffic for sites. Defiantly SEO friendly will help but it more controversial that how Google evaluate Directory submission? But its one of the important job in SEO.

It helps a little bit. I just submit 10 directory submission everyday. And once my link is approved, it counts as my backlinks.

Directory submissions are useful especially when the traffic on that directory is good, which means people actually use it to search for websites. Other than that, it can only be counted as backlinks if the links are dofollow.

Do not make it ur main work as directory submission, not getting good link juice from it... the link may be in the deep page of the dir.. so may be no rank for the link page some time not indexing the page . So if u have enough time do it otherwise concentrate in other methods

Yeah directory submission is one of the last link building methods I rely on...but I don't ignore it either. Just don't expect a miracle from 1,000 submits or anything.

But do people really go to directories, to search for anything? I mean how many people don't go to Google and go to directories to search for something and that too over a limited number of sites?! Directories were used in the past when there were no search engines. I doubt if they have any use in the current era compared to google.

The idea with directories is that they provide backlinks to your site. Google considers each backlinks as a 'vote' for your site. Some votes carry more weight than others. I think over time Google is putting less importance on links from directories.

I believe directory submissions add a value for your SEO if you have really a quality high PR directories archieve.

You will get into Google SandBox and then you get banned

I think directory submission is just one to make your traffic. Myself believe quality backlink is the key for google attraction.

I personally believe directory submissions are the best way to generate backlinks. Some SEO directories offer high quality backlinks, as others don't.
