One way links are very helpful for a site. It will increase your backlinks. But the link should be dofollow.

It is obvious that one way links are more powerful than exchanged link because search engines thinks that one way links are natural links.
So it will increase your rankinmg but also remember to use the right anchor texts on the backlinks that will be bringing in your targeted visitors

You can always give relevant links to your sites through social bookmarking and other web2.0 properties. Also, if you are trying to get links from other blogs and websites, you should get it from relevant sites that have the same topic or niche.
