Thread: Are we for or against link exchange?

I have been involved in web design and seo for nearly 10 years now, in this time i have seen lots of seo methods come and go.

I like gave up on link exchange some time ago now but lately i have seen lots of sites build on not much more links exchanged with similar site, all these sites end up with high page rank and great serps.

I wonder if you could all jump in with your opinions on the subject, is link exchange a dated method or something we should all be doing

link exchange will always be useful for your seo work..
but, of course, you always have to remember to keep the niche related to your site.. it will help you with more visitor and finally higher SERP rankings..

I can't say that I am against link exchange, but I am cautious about. I know that Google doesn't like it so much and you are likely to be banned, but I realize that many site use it and they have not problems at all.

I still prefer to think that link exchanging is necessary.But it doesn't mean you should focus
on it.It's just a kind of way.And all the possible ways for promoting should be used together
so that you can get a better result.

I prefer one-way links. When I do link trades it's usually 3-way or more, so the links really end up appearing as one-way instead of two-way. It has done a lot of good for my sites.

You won't get banned for two-way link exchanges but it doesn't count for much. Google bans sites that sell links for the purpose of passing PR.

I think the link exchange is good but very time consuming, where else link building is very effective than this.

Link exchange can really work when it comes to SEO and it is be done in a good way wherein you come across with a link exchange with a site that is somehow relevant to your site. Too much link exchange is not a good practice. You can done it but not all day long. You must still do those link building methods and don't rely only on using the link exchange method.

Google loves link swapping. So do it .keep in mind site should be relevant.

Link exchange is good as long as it is not abused. Excessive link exchange on other sites can only harm your SERP rankings.

link exchange is beneficial google does not see any wrong with it...what you should consider is the serp ranking, is it related to your niche, how many outgoing link does the website has, and of course its pagerank(but check it out if it used blackhats)...these are the main factors you should consider to link exchange with another website

I rarely exchange links with anyone. You can get away with it although it takes longer to do all of the tedious things. But in the end, your site will retain more "juice."

It is ok to an extent i.e. until you have filled your link page up. I would never bother with dozens of links pages though.

Yes, Link Exchange really matters in seo, you can't ignore it completely. But, more than that what matters is content in your webiste. All the sites which you have seen must have great content updated at frequent intervals.

Link exchange never worked for me. However, directory submissions and forum posting is an excellent way to build links.

i gave up link exchanges some time ago. there are so many ways to build links, i just dont see any reason to spend so much time on link exchanges. even when it was working, i have seen people removing my links after the exchange and seen some sites going dead after a while. not only it takes time to find link exchange partners and get back and forth to exchange links, you will need to keep track of them as well to see whether your links are still up or not.

aside from that, google discounts links that are gained form link exchanges.

out bound links are vot of confidence to your site coming from another website so it also count in google page rank update

It is stated by google that link exchanges should always be relevant and not from those spammy sites that may have negative effects on us. I still do link exchanges from trusted sites of google and I haven't experienced any problem with it so far.

I don't mess with link exchanges or 3 way exchanges anymore. They are difficult to manage and a lot of them get deleted by the webmasters after the trade has been completed. I rather focus on forums, blogs, social networking, and articles. Those links have staying power.

Link exchange is still working and its not illegal but back links should be from same niche and using different keyword .....it will work for you....

From my part of experience link exchanging! in todays' SEO wont work that much! However if you are willing to do exchange do exchange that not relates to Cross Linking of 2 Reciprocal Websites

Be careful what sites you send links to as well. I can’t prove this, but it make sense to me if your site is seen sending a lot of links to sites that are prime candidates for search engine penalties (for whatever reasons), you might suck up some of the penalty too. This is especially important for you bloggers selling text links – I make this mistake myself – check every site that buys a link from your blog to see what you are endorsing.

one way linking is more preferable by the Google than the link exchange

Link exchange will boost your online business prospects if they are carried out in accordance to search engine guidelines. Links should be relevant to your site.

Link exchanges (two-way links) don't hurt but they don't help either. Waste of time, really.

Link Exchanging is the great resource! but Search Engines dont like it however three-way link exchanging gives preference than reciprocal one...

It depends on the niche. For example, in adult niche link exchange is the only way to get any traffic, because competition is so big, that it's almost impossible to get ranked high. The smaller niche, the easier it is to rank high in search engines. Hence, link exchange becomes pointless, because it doesn't help SEO.
