Which type of link exchange is better?

Usually while exchanging links, i ask for contextual link. But there are site wide links, footer links, text links, banners, etc.
I request for link on the relevant page or section of the website than site wide links.
Which one is the best ?

I can advice you to avoid link wheel in your practice, because Google hates it and can ban you for the using of it. Link wheel means when site A links to site B, site B links to site C and site C links to site A.

According to me reciprocal links are better , because they are confirmed links.
