Do directory submissions work?

I tried submitting to a bunch of directories, but I haven't seen 1 backlink come up on yahoo or google. Have they been filtered out of google's and yahoo's algorithms already?

Yes, they work, just wait a bit and they will come up, but don't focus on links only as there are other ways to promote a site.

While Directories do work, they are really just a single piece of the the backlinks puzzle. I'd suggest submitting to all the mainstream directories, and then moving on to other link building tasks. It may take weeks before you see any results off directory submissions.

Directory submission does work but very few directories approve links and few approves but very late so there are many webmaster who dont recommend it highly efficient.

Which directories did you submit to? If the list includes mainstream directories like DMOZ, Yahoo and Google and a few premium niche-related directories, you will definitely see the results. Stay patient.

Depends on the directory and its pagerank. Usually recommended to get listed on directories with a higher pagerank than your site.

I still trust directory submission but not wasting too much on it. Submitting at least 20 submission per day is quite good. So still you need to implement other white hat SEO.

So before you submit, check the directory´s number of indexed pages. If the number is low or none, then don´t waste your time with it move on to a better one.

directory submissions always help in promotion but if directories hold decent alexa ranking, pagerank and bulk directories should not be from single ip

Like Soft said, if people only use Google, Bing and Yahoo to search the Internet, then why would submitting your website to other directories help? Do the big search engines index the directories? Or do they automatically filter them out now?

If it gets approved it is good that it is a permanent backlink to the site.

We all know directories take time to approve submissions.So first wait till directories not approved your submitted links.After that google or other SE crawl it, then they ll count it as backlinks for your website.So keep focus on quality link building work.Ses ll automatically count your backlinks with a mean time.

Directory submission can't hurt your SERP. However it might not help that much either.
Submitting to directories is still a good way to diversify your link profile getting links from various IPs.

After Google panda update some webmaster says that directory submission is worthless now but from my point of view it works well. You need to focus on directories with high PR.

I am seeing directories starting to pop up in my linkdomain results. So it looks like it does work in the sense that it provides permanent backlinks to your website. They are getting indexed by google.com and yahoo.com.

How much time it has been???? Directory submissions takes more time to approve as its free. If you have have selected paid subscription then they would have sent u confirmation link..

yes directory submissions definitely works but it require ample time to approve. Yahoo do not give much preference to directories as Google gives. I would suggest you to do 50 directory submissions per day so that in a month you can get near to 100 backlinks approved.

Ofcourse directory submissions works...
But it is not a one day process...

- Paying for a permanent link is a good idea, but in the long run, can be expensive with no definite study of how it affects the SERPs directly.
- Paying for temporary (1 year) package links submitted to number of websites can help build backlinks fast while you are in the process of building quality backlinks with a 1 year timetable.

Directory submission seems to be a waste of time as far as gaining any dofollow links. However, if and when your submission is approved, it at the very least can help to increase traffic to your website.
