I have heard .edu link are quite beneficial for getting high rank in google.

I have a travel site to promote,if I get .edu link, how can it be beneficial for my site since my site them and .edu site are completely different.

Please guide.

The better question what is the best way to get a edu link?

It is good to get a backlink from the site having .edu or .gov extension as those sites are search engine trusted sites and generally they do not allow anyone to submit their site URL in such sites. It will be really helpful for improving PR of your site as well as search results.

.edu are no more better than .com, as Matt Cutts already previously explained when he blew the myth out of the water.

Ok, yeah we wouldn't be offering any discount of anything like that. By your example it would fit into the natural link category. But yeah, if they do place a link to us, i'll also request to see where and how they linked to us, so that we can verify that it is not in anyway spammy, and if it is, probably nofollow

i don't think that .edu links matter now . just link to your Niche market through this you can increase your SERP
