I also heard that after panda update, article directory loses its effectivity on search engine rankings. Did you heard about this? But I still think it is still helping.

Article Submission is the best for get back link.But if you want to increase your PR.Then you do Directory Submission.

I think article submission is still important for back links.

One thing is what Im sure of by doing the article submission. It's a good source of gaining your quality backlinks once your article is approved.

If you are submitting unique articles in leading article directories than article submission is still a good marketing tool

Google considers the authority of backlinks while according PageRank to a web-page. So, the key is to up the number of relevant, authority backlinks. Article submission hardly helps you with that.
P.S - Why are you concerned with your website’s PR anyway? Traffic, conversions, ROI, search results...that’s what you should be after...

According to me Articles submission is always the best way to get good quality back links that helps to increase the better ranking in search engines. Make sure that write an article for the benefit of the reader and it should be 100% error-free.

More than PR, they help in increasing ranking of your site which is more important.

there seem to be many conflicting views about this following the panda update. i believe it is not as good as it once was, but will have to keep an eye on developments to see if there if still some good in it
