What internet marketing technology do you prefer to use when promoting websites - SEO or PPC advertisement and why?

I have voted for SEO myself! Once your website is well optimized you can get a high ammounts of traffic for many years. PPC is a good method for new websites only! What do you think about this? All opinions are welcome here!

In my experience SEO wins over PPC everytime. But they both compliment each other too.

It totally depends on the market you are in and peoples search habits.

Both are very helpful for promoting your site. Both are important for promotion and it depends on your financial status. SEO is popular now but time is your enemy to increase all of the targeted keywords and traffic of course, that's why you need PPC for backup.

for me I guess SEO is much better.... but PPC is also useful in advertising...

I think most will vote seo, but like me most have no idea how to. They just know it sounds cheaper than ppc.

for me i think of it like this

seo for long term

ppc for short term

all depends on what the website is for and niche

You can get some good keyword analysis from PPC but yes, SEO most definitely gets my vote for long term.

I would go for SEO as it is long term and sustainable

It's like comparing apples and oranges. They are used for different purposes and for best results they need to both be used.

I think those who are avid for PPC feel the other way. Google can just kill your site off in SERPS by just flicking a button.

I voted for SEO. SEO is definitely more efficient than Adwords. Also, long term results can be achieved in SEO unlike in PPC.

If you are only using google for ppc than, thats why it's not working!

SEO FTW but I like PPC as a secondary.

I like SEO , because it is free and easy to promote the site using such approach...

it all depends on the type of site it is. SEO doesn't work for affiliate landing pages and other types of affiliate programs.
SEO is being questioned now in several webmaster forums with all the cheating techniques out there. I guess you need to use what youve tested and what you know works good for you.

I'm not voting, I think both are equally important.
you can use ppc to see what keywords area really being clicked on, then you'll know what phrases to target with your SEO campaign.

Okay.. well we really need to break "seo" down into to areas.
Search engine optimization and Search engine marketing..

What you do with seo is just optimize your pages, make sure you have plenty of quality content (fresher the better) and have proper title and meta tags, as well as header tags that match the content on those pages. Also making sure the pages are a valid as you can get. I use the wc3 validation page.. just google it, you'll find it.

now, sem is building links to those pages which you've worked so hard on. Using link and article directories, as well as social bookmarking to build links and interest. You'll also want to get some good "linkbait" articles posted on your site.. just google it as well if you don't know what it is. You can also ask bloggers to blog about your site with the anchor text to match the titles and meta info you setup before. Building lots and lots of links for your "red widgits" will eventually start to get you better rankings for "red widgits"

SEO is much cheaper.

Seo is something that you use to keep your plain flying, ppc is what gets it off the ground.

According to the results received SEO is more effective method!

I would say SEO is not cheaper method I think it is even more expensive than PPC advertising! However, a well-optimized website can bring you more traffic from the major search engines for a long time. When you select PPC advertising you pay for each click all the time!

SEO it's a long term process.

But, for each new site, you need a boost on start, so in this case you can use PPC.

I agree with this quote right here. As an Internet Marketer you need to utilize both and I do believe that SEO is better for long term and PPC for short term but I think it largely depends on how you are earning your money.. If you have a website that seems to convert well, into money sales then I suggest using a very cheap and cost effective PPC campaign.

SEO is a necessity and PPC as an added luxury you can use to get paid but it can be costly if you dont know exactly what you are doing. If you are using PPC and you are spending alot on keywords then chances are you are spending incorrectly and need to rethink your PPC campaign. Only use cheap keywords that convert well, target your advertising as much as possible.

Yes, I agree with you that PPC advertizing can be considered as more suitable solution for new websites! It should be also added that this website promotion method is often chosen to check if there is a demand on the product or services offered!

Yes, Ricardo, I fully support your opinion! We optimized a website for one Canadian software development company two years ago and they still continue to receive traffic from search engines!
