Someone who knows how to make a Press Release?

Most seo tips recommend to do a press release.

I have a question.
What should a press release contain, and where should I post this.

I run a directory, anyone who has an example of a good press release and where to post it.

10 Essential Tips to Ensure Your Press Release Makes the News.

1. Make sure the information is newsworthy.
2.Tell the audience that the information is intended for them and why they should continue to read it.
3.Start with a brief description of the news, then distinguish who announced it, and not the other way around.
4.Ask yourself, "How are people going to relate to this and will they be able to connect?"
5.Make sure the first 10 words of your release are effective, as they are the most important.
6.Avoid excessive use of adjectives and fancy language.
7.Deal with the facts.

Press release format

The format of a press release is quite straightforward:

Release instructions
Include in a few words directives as to when the information can be released e.g. "For immediate release" or "for release on April 30, 2009"

Contact information
This is usually for the use of the company whom you are submitting to. Include:

Contact Person
Company Name
Phone
Fax
URL
email address

Headline
Short, attention grabbing line. Do not use exclamation marks, marketing hype or references to selling.

Summary
An extension of the headline and consolidation of the body. Just a couple of sentences outlining the major points.

Body
Always start the first sentence in the following format:

City, State (or country), Month, Day, Year -

..then launch into the story itself. Ensure that the date you use is current when submitting. Media outlets won't want what would appear to be old news. Keep your sentences short and use paragraphs every 5-6 lines if possible. The body should be within 400 - 600 words range.

Further information
Where readers of the press release can gain further details e.g. your web site.

About
Include a sentence about your company.

Remember to skip a line between sections and save in a generic format, such as a plain text file.

There is no template as such, but the essence is ensuring you cover the what, where, when and why in the first couple of paras, leading with the most eye catching / interesting angle. What's the most important thing you are trying to say to the target audience?

The best press releases are written like newspaper copy, think how the title/ website you're targeting would write up the piece - get some copies of the titles you're targeting and emulate their style.

You should include the date of release, headline and then full contact details for further information. If you have a quote from a spokesperson good to use, or say that a spokesperson's available for interview. Also if you have a pic that supports the story you can include a thumbnail pic in the release and say for more images images contact XXX.

Hi there! Everyone' got some really good tips, and links to great resources too! In addition you may want to stay clear of unnecessary euphemism, but rather go straight to the point. Too much unnecessary words would make people want to crumple your press release before even knowing what's it about.

Submitting a Press Release is not necessary for SEO. Unless your product or the service you offers needs one. Also, I don't think it's worth it anymore. I will prefer and consume my time submitting and plugging links to social networking and bookmarking websites rather than doing a press release submission.
