I'm already doing link building but list building is new to me and I want also to touch this technique. Can anyone tell me its nature and how to do it properly?

Dear Emma,
By way of a starting point please have a look at How To Get Visitors To Leave Their Contact Details.
HTH, Jed.
Get paid a referrer or finder's fee by an offline business for finding a customer (or a "lead") for it. This monetization model is as classic as business itself. The Net, though, makes it far more cost-effective.

The first thing to understand is that quality is more important than quantity when it comes to list building. While having a larger list may seem to be a great thing, if those people on the list are not likely to purchase your product or service then your list while larger is not effective. Creating a targeted list of customers that have a genuine potential for purchasing from you gives you a stronger foundation for potential sales and increased sales. You have the potential for reaching more potential customers by honing your list.
The next concern with list building is keeping it up to date. You need to be constantly aware of contact addresses that are no longer valid. This is not something that you do once and forget about it. Email addresses change; people change jobs, internet service providers or even die. Sending your messages to invalid addresses is a waste of valuable time and energy. Not only that, it doesn’t give a true indicator of your customer base.
The third things to consider when building your list are the services and computer programs offered today. Serious list building requires serious effort. Check out the technology and services available for building your list, as well as the professionals and support services that are out there. You may be well served by using one of the services that specializes in list building and autoresonders.
There are lot of courses available to learn more about list building. But here are some basics.
You build a list of emails so you can follow up with them and market over and over again
Key is to build a responsive list
You need to build a relation with your list to achieve good results
List is an asset for your business.
Crash course in list building.
1) come up with something you can give away to your visitors in exchange for their email address and a contact name.
2) get an auto responder service
3) write a bunch of messages to put in your auto responder service. These will be a welcome message with the free download, and a series of messages that can run on auto pilot for weeks, months or even a year. People on your list receive those messages on a schedule you set - usually every 3 days or once a week but it shouldn't be longer. Your messages can be a mini-course or just news in your industry that would be of interest to your subscribers.
4) include promotional emails within your auto responder series (usually sent one every 3 messages) to get your subscribers to buy something
5) set it and forget it. Once you've done 1-4, all that's left is to promote your opt-in form (which is on your landing page).
There's a ton more on this topic that follow these basic steps, like setting up joint ventures with other list owners in your niche. They send your ads to their list and you send the other owner's ads to your list. You both benefit, because you are both getting free promotion. Those ads include an an offer for your free giveaway or it can be an outright "buy this" type of ad.

List building is probably the most important activity you can do - studies have shown that it takes an average of seven contacts between you and a potential client before they feel comfortable enough to trust you.
List building allows you to get to that seventh point of contact.
