what do you guys think would be the best way to market a new magazine related to gaming?

Try ebay or link exchange to your related websites or blog.. You can also join in any games forums that is related to your products.

You should join some game forums and promote it there. Then you should give out some free samples to people in some specialized shops.

Depends on the way you are planning on creating this magazine.

Is it paper based? An Emag? What?

A website alongside the magazine is often a good idea. Usually magazines try to create a kind of community (e.g. at least incorporate a moderated forum and a blog, if not more). It helps to get people interested in the magazine.

One good thing I've found with a magazine I subscribe to is that they also provide a means for people to buy the magazine online (as a PDF download). This allows your market to span worldwide instead of only having distribution of your paper based magazine over one country (or less).

Other than that you basically need a nice marketing budget, spend it on adverts in places that your magazine is of interest.

Buy or maintain a targeted list of people who are interested in gaming and then send them request or info or ask them to visit your site or blog.

I think the best would be to give away a few copies to people who blog about games so they will review it on their blog

Give them away to people to use in return for a free review. It works like magic that's how most companies generate publicity for their product.

Give a free copy first to people who are interested. Or launched a contest and include that magazine as your freebies to people who join your contest.

If it's paperbased magazine, then give it away in video game shops. Just ask the manager if you can set them on the counter for their customers to take one for free. You could have an offer in the magazine for them to go Online and enter to win something. That way you could build up a database and get subscriptions. You can provide incentives to subscribers if they get their friends to subscribe.
