Default Promote your business in the local takeaway

Crazy that it sounds companies are using the local takeaways to promote their business.

You have a local chinese take-away, and offer to pay their printing costs in return for a page advertisement on their menu. This menu will go out to thousands of people who will keep the menu in their drawer and from time to time order from it and will notice your business.

It might not work for everyone, but local plumbers, electricians, and companies that provide local services would benefit the most.

    Give it a try.

Another great idea. I recently started a local site and its like a whole new mind frame of marketing after getting used to a global market I now have to refocus on more "grassroot" efforts. I also had suggestions of putting a banner up on little league fields, sponsoring runners for charity events and giving them a t-shirt with you logo/webname on it for when they run. Simple stuff, and ultimately cheap, advertising!

Yes, the old ideas are still the best for local advertising.
Any business like restaurants will be happy to eliminate their printing costs.
But make sure you are a mock up ready to show, as they would like to see what is being advertised before committing.

Limo companies have used this tactic for years to get business.

So, I wonder how much the printing would cost you?

    Check with local printers.
Used to be good pricing on like 10,000 printed at one time.

It costs around £75 for 1,000 here, thats bout $130 but imagine how long 1,000 menu would last.

I'm sure you can get it cheaper.

    ... and to add.

Colleen for a business like yours it would wok [hehe sorry! ] a dream.

Local web design in Toronto, they would be hundreds of takeaways queuing up to advertise your business in return for free printing. If you work with a local printer maybe you can both half an advert each?

I always thought I was pretty damn good at SEO, but of late, its becoming frustrating, and time consuming. Just when I think I am getting somewhere, Google change their algo and I go diving down.

Traditional marketing techniques will never die, and as someone once said to me you should never put all of your eggs in one basket.

thanks! that makes me feel better. I just feel like there's so much I don't know. I've had my website for eons but have never really self taught myself how to improve such things...and now, having found great forums...I'm just lazy!

You could spend five years learning SEO like I have, get a site ranking well, and then Google etc, change how they rank sites, and you have to learn all over again.

SEOmoz is a good place to start to learn plus WTF of course
