Lightbulb How should I best promote this idea?

    Hi!

I have launched one of my craziest projects so far - Get Me A Mini.
The idea is to sell almost all of my car's surface to interested buyers. In exchange they will get their ad "printed" on my car (on the spot they selected), and banner on the web page for 5-10 years.

I think it would be tempting to get a banner for $100+ for 5 years or more (especially if we consider that I will spend up to 100$/month on constant web page advertisement). And car itself won't go unnoticed with its unique look (load of different pictures all over its body) - perhaps even in newspapers and TV.

What do you think would be the best method in this particular case? How can I convince advertisers to buy a spot? Where should I go?

You can follow up the news about this on my blog - in the category about Get Me A Mini project.

Oh.. If YOU are interested, don't hesitate to get yourself the best spot (or enter the competition on the blog to get 2 free spots and banner for free )

Interesting idea! Blogging about it is a good start. You should also start several promotional campaigns to broaden your scope. Here is a check list you may find useful.

    Free methods:
    Article marketing
    Email campaign
    Forums, blogs and board postings
    Social Bookmarking
    Etc. etc.

Premium ways: (Should require a budget)
    Pay-Per-Click (PPC)
    Ad spaces
    Offline campaigns
    Etc. etc.

If I were to market that concept, I would opt for Pay-Per-Click as this would yield targetted traffic to your ad campaign. You could also target websites of all sorts with your idea with PPC.

Ei! Keep us posted for any development! Best of luck!

you may also want to tell people where the advertising will take place/car is located eg: city

OK it started going... I've got my first real advertiser tonight and am just placing his banner on the page.

Thanks for the hints I'll mix free and premium options for best results
LaCabra: I'm from Slovenia (Europe) and 90% time ads will be displayed here, but I also take quite some trips around Europe per year. I will add this question to the FAQ.

JuggernautH: It sux being scammed and I hope you get your money back somehow. If you don't... bash this guy all over the internet
This project will be open for about one year (if I don't sell it out before that)... When you find money and would still like a spot or two just contact me

Best you approach / target companies in Europe since your campaign's visibility is there also. But I still think you could still market the concept to other companies that also cater to European audiences. Best of luck

Now that is an idea and a half!
Thought about it for our van.
But too much trouble getting one sticker at a time made.

iowadawg: you can actually make some kind of a skin for the car. It's "one" huge sticker. When I'm done selling spots I'll probably drink gallons of coffe while trying to place pictures correctly, remeasure the car, fill missing gaps and make it look the best I can. Then printing, cuting and praying it fits the car

Nah, too much trouble, this is a VAN.
Thought about just selling off stickers for companies.

There is a company in Des Moines that have these trucks that roll around the city.
What is neat, is that the sides and the back have rolling ads!
