How effective is revenue sharing on forums? Do any of you make a substantial amount of revenue or even something small but reasonable?

It depends what your interpretation of effective is.
Even with thousands of posts and hundreds of threads to my name I have never made more than a couple of dollars a month, which I consider as barely worth having. Someone who made only a few dollars from AdSense normally would probably have a different opinion. Plus a dollar here in the UK is worth almost nothing, whereas in India it would get you a decent plate of food.
Funny, CB and I were just talking about this elsewhere. I've hardly made anything from forum revenue sharing. webanswers.com has worked better for me. I've actually had 1 click from that site worth .80 USD and another single click worth .50 USD.
I was thinking about that after a web host owner in the UK was saying the same thing about selling hosting to U.S. customers.

so is it really worth having it as a passive income?
Doesn't hurt to add it, but don't count on making big money from it
I don't waste time with such methods that can only earn pennies ...
Same here as w3bmaster, if you really need to make money from your website or blog you need a lot of work. You need to promote, get high quality traffic.
For that you need to know the basics and start from the bottom.

Interesting, I havent heard too many positive things about revenue sharing.

Something I didn't mention, which I'm noticing quite a lot now - we get people joining just to get some of the revenue share. You can recognise them because they either PM you or make threads about "When can I have signature links?" They're not the sort of people we want here.
Never actiavted it on sites that support it.
I have an idea for a website that would be like myspace.com except users would get a revenue share for the advertising on their profiles and picture pages. The site layout would be much cleaner than myspace and it would be just as easy to network and keep in touch...

I would say it's minimal. I have a forum and it makes barely any with thousands of posts from differing posters. Now lets say each poster did 1000 posts and I shared the earnings with them, they would receive not much at all per each calender month.
