    Default Microsoft bad News

The bad news just keeps coming for Microsoft's Internet Explorer platform. After being forced by the European Union to give Windows users the option of downloading other browsers besides its own, Microsoft has had to stand by and watch as the market share for Internet Explorer, once the overwhelmingly dominant browser in the market with over 90 percent market share, dipped below 60 percent. If the trend continues, as is expected, it might only be a matter of time before a majority of people around the globe are using other browsers than Internet Explorer.

If they can't or don't force internet explorer on people in windows, funny how quickly nobody wants or cares about ie. Force it upon them and they use it or don't know any better. Give them a choice or option of others and bye...bye ie. I never did like ie that much anyway. They keep trying, but they just aren't getting much better. They should just stick to operating systems and a few of their more popular lines, let ie die off.

When was it ever above 90%? The early 90's?

:/ it's been around 60% for a few years now.

I don't think that it's bad news. I guess Microsoft will start working hard on developing or improving IE and maybe (who knows) users will prefer IE to Firefox.

Even if it dropped that much 60% is still over half.

    Wink Re: Microsoft bad News

I Personally have used Internet Explorer all of my life, this was due to all of the computers that I have ever owned being windows based.

Really never had any complaints about internet explorer, but I am saying this because I really did not know any better.

I always used internet explorer simply because it was the only internet browser that I was familiar with, knew how to work with, able to use its "limited features" and for the most part liked its simplistic design as it did not clutter any of the internet pages that I was trying to view.

I also liked how internet explorer format, it does not have any crazy color schemes or bright complex designs.

For simple everyday web browsing it worked well for me, but once I became a webmaster and started using internet explorer for the more advanced things online that I needed to do as a webmaster. I then began to notice how slow it was, it began to freeze on me, also sometimes began to minimize itself and do all sorts of crazy stuff. Going behind other windows, then popping up in front of other open windows, etc...

The demand that I now needed in order to maintain my sites and webpages greatly exceeded the capabilities that microsoft internet explorer was able to offer.

So I downloaded firefox and the speed difference is amazing, as well as not crashing and freezing on me.

When I am only going to surf online, participate in forums or log into any of my social media pages, i still use internet explorer.

However, when I need to perform any site maintenance, make changes to my webpages, upload new content or perform any other webmaster duties I use firefox instead.

The only fact's I'm sure of here are:
    1. Sadly, when I check my website stats, it says most vistors used IE.
    2. I want my sites to be compatible with the most popular browsers so I do testing with several of them.

Not that I have any idea of the facts, but are you sure you're not thinking about Windows XP market share (not just IE market share)? I'm asking because XP itself is at approx. 65%.

I am using IE for windows update otherwise it is not the safest browser to use.

Right now the fastest it Chrome and I stick with it.

But my websites shows that 80% uses IE and it really suck, because they doesn't care about security!

First thing Microsoft could do is fix some of the bugs Internet Explorer has the other browsers are trying to fix, notably allowing javascript, applets, and many other scripts to run unprotected, it is the way virus/trojans/backdoors are delivered to many people

IE is a hole for viruses, so I prefer Opera - it is much safer.
Regarding statistics on browsers used by Web site visitors, do not take it as is: by default, Opera represents itself as IE because there are Web sites that won't load otherwise. So part of "IE share" really belongs to Opera
