Thread: Not bad ranking

I quickly checked MSN just to see if this domain was indexed decently. One of the first results that came up was

Free Wordpress Themes

I then did a search for 'Free Wordpress Themes' the above link was listed in 6th position a very relevant result, above that was also a result from another great site offering Free Wordpress Themes.

The search query I used is below, all and all not bad results from MSN

Yeah it was pretty cool I thought. Some results on MSN still suck, but that particular search came in pretty good IMO.

It seems MSN has finally realized that their monopoly and quality has been compromised. Nice to see they are making some improvements.

Same here, I used google for my personal searches 99% of the time. Only when I couldn't find what I was looking for on google, or I am checking search results do I bother with msn, yahoo or others.

If I cannot find what I am looking for in Google, I then go to search.com which searches the three main search engines, from what I know.

Whilst I don't want to blow down your sails on the good ranking, I have tons of '1 keywords, and do I receive traffic from MSN, do I buggar. Compared to Google that brings in a few hundred visitors for one keyword term that I am '2 on Google but '1 on MSN.

Thanks, but what I was trying to get across (not very well) was that on MSN you might have top rankings, but the referrals are poor, ie. not many people use MSN for search (or anything else) nowadays.

True, but I don't think Grim was focusing on that in this situation. I do get quite a few though.

Yeah I was talking more relevancy of the engine itself, and the fact that WTF scored pretty damn good. Traffic of course can not compete with google, but I'd still rather be ranked high in MSN then not ranked at all

Yeah, I get good results in MSN serps but hardly any traffic. WTF?

Ranking high on MSN is not that difficult - in fact it is the most approachable search engine out of the 3 big ones. What I noticed is that links tend to get valued highly on MSN, regardless of the type of link. So for example if you join a link exchange program, and have hundreds of links pointing to yours through their software, you might make it to the top of MSN, but it will probably ruin your Google rankings in the process.

Cool...grim....thanks...but could you tell us Colleen, does MSN brings you some traffic...well there always has been issues related to the competition between MSN and Yahoo!

Well Google is Emperor no doubt about that...but who is next to it?? I find it yahoo..but want to know your opinions..

Just checked "directory blogger" in msn.
And where once my blog was number one, it is gone somewhere!
In it's place, is my new directory!

Now in google for the same phrase, my blog is still number one, with now my new directory being number 2!

Google is doing me good, but msn got rid of my directory.
Now that is not good!

Hey, I just check the traffic on one of my sites.
Google bots have now hit that site a grand total of 8600+ times today!
62mb they took of my bandwidth.
Why in the heck would google hit my site that many times?

Yes, it is very great to be 6th in Bing. How old is your site.

MSN is overlooked for the big G but it can prove some interesting results as you can attest
