Thread: Forget about PageRank!

I'm surprised to find there's a forum devoted to PageRank here. I wish people wouldn't over-obsess with it so much. It's really not the be-all and end-all IMHO.

Forget PR. Pay attention to the SERPs for your desired key phrases. At the end of the day, that's what matters, not PR.

you have to understand people are obsessed with measuring things even if it is not the be all and end all its a metric so people will talk about it.

The purpose of this dedicated forum for pagerank is to keep threads like this on one place it's not obsession at all purely for discussion. IMHO

Exactly. We at WTF only add forums as we need them purely to keep things organized. It's just part of natural growth, also makes things easier to find. :scool:

SERP is more important to me than pagerank... I don't care if I don't have high PR as long as my SERP is high on SE...

Agreed. I never care about my website PR, but I do care my SERP. Having PR discussion is good, so we can know why PR is there, etc.

Im don`t undestand ... Why you dont` care about pr site? if you site have hight pr that means - it was in top of queries of your keywords and people will come in your site. what you mean?

PR is not as important as it once was and it was never as important as what so many make it seem. Having a section of this forum for the discussion of PR in no way indicates an obsession. Here you will find forums for games, jokes, ebooks, etc etc yet most of us aren't obsessed with jokes and ebooks

I have been preaching the message that content is still king and that is where we should focus our efforts and not on trying to figure out how to manipulate the SERPs and PR. If you put up a website with truly interesting and unique content the SERPS will come. And PR? That will come as well, but don't worry about it.

We are always hearing about SEO but there is something more important. I call it HBO Human Being Optimization. Optimize your websites so that they are attractive and interesting to an actual human being.

There is one thing that PR is good for these days and that is saleability. When it comes time to sell a website most everyone wants to know, "Whats the PR?" Shouldnt the actual content be more valuable than the PR?

Agreed completely! If I'm not ranking for my desired keywords but I have a PageRank of like 3 or whatever, that is useless because it means nothing. I have a site that has 0 PR but is ranking #1 for a few of my desired keywords so it really doesn't matter unless you want to impress people.

That's true. PR does not mean good or bad SERPS

If anyone doubts this just do an experiment. Search for any phrase or keyword and then compare the PR values of the sites in the top 10 or top 20. You will see that they are not in any certain order as far as PR goes.

people still care so there has to be a forum for it. I say work on advertising for traffic not PR.

PR is not of importance actually.. but building pr links matter .. like quality links they are.. and which hav less outbound links .. keep that in mind !!

Yes PR is not that much important but normally i see in the SERP result if you have good PR than you come in the Top position in the SERP. PR is also depends upon the traffic of the Site so this all are so called vice-versa.

This is my thinking as per the analysis of the different search result. May be other have other answer.

I've always been against page rank myself too, however large companies focus on that number when buying text links. Now, I'm not talking PR3-4 and sometimes even 5. But, when I hit PR6 with one of my sites 2 updates ago, the orders came rolling in from big name companies who pay for years in advance.

So, while I agree PR is a wasted goal to try and strive for, once you have it, it becomes very easy to exploit it. Take your money and run, because google has a habit of shaking things up.

I haven't paid nearly as much attention to PR as I used to. As I've said in other posts, I have had PR0 sites which had pages in the top 10 SERPS. I think the reason for that is because the content was very focused and on-topic. The pages also had very relevant outbound links with good anchor text.

Pagerank does matter, and it is one thing to look at when you are wanting more traffic, but certainly not the only thing.

PR is only important in link exhange. It doesnt guarantee that the site will rank well on the SERP which is the important thing

If your No1 in the SERP's then for you there is no reason to think about pagerank as you have enough at the moment to rank well.

However pagerank is a factor in google's algorithm and it can't hurt to increase it. As your competitors pagerank increases they will catch you up all other things staying the same.

Some people definitely put too much weight on pagerank but you can't argue that in general, on very competitive search terms the top spots do tend to have high pagerank.

Cldnails is right. i have myself a site with no pagerank but with a growing alexa rank good traffic for a 2 months old site and i cant sell my banners to a correct price.

The only reason I look at the PR is just to see if I can make it higher lol and to use it to my advange for sales :P

I have a site that is a PR3 (up recently from a PR2), and receives about 5k uniques a day, mostly from organic google search.

I also have a site that is PR6 that receives about 50 unique visitors a day.

I think site quality/age/content, etc. matter more.

My most profitable website has a PR0! I am proud of it too! Traffic is king not arbitrary ratings by robots. If Google actually manually reviewed the sites it might be a different story. PR SchmeerR

I guess if you are doing well with your rankings, without really focusing your attention on getting a PR, it will come naturally. How? When you build links to your website targeting some keywords to rank on SERPs, you sure gain a lot of links for your keyword to rank. And how do you really gain PR? By means of LINKS as well...

I just checked the PR of the site that was always PR O and now it is PR 4. I had not checked in over a year. Go figure? I did not really change anything much. I would forget about PR and concentrate on building a quality site with quality content and links. Take the long term view. Also, write for people not search engines. Actually the search engines are looking for this type of content even though they do not always succeed because algorithims find the sites not human reviewers. The goal of the algorithms (whatever those are LOL!) is to find real content and relevance.

So do whatever you have to do to build your site up in a relevant and quality manner over the long term and in the end I think the search engines will come around.

page rank doesnt matter any more as long as your site getting rank high in SERPs
