forum signature url

hi all,

newbie here don't know much about this links business but i heard that when we include urls in our signature when posting in forums, these links are not ranked as highly by cuz it somehow knows?

does anyone know how this works or can point me a source that does?

yes it seems everyone believes it will work. but not so many people are sure if it will work.

I'm not sure either way so I won't be much help here. I really only put URLs in my signature so people can see what I'm working on and do with websites. If it has any SEO value it's an added bonus for me.

Signature links are mainly for direct traffic. If someone sees what you are offering, they may click on it.

It does also help some for SEO purposes. However, a direct boost to PR is not often achieved because of the massive amount of external links on a forum. The more the external do-follow links you have, the lower amount of PR juice the site can pass to others.

As Dan stated, use it for the purpose of showing off your work or site and be thankful for any added benefit that is achieved for SEO.

I was reading a thread at anther forum yesterday where someone heard "that forum sigs are penalised". The OP had had a PR5 site for years and after adding the site to his sig, it dropped to 4. He removed the sig in an attempt to get his his PR5 back, but after a few months without the sig, it didn't change. There were many useful comments in the thread about SEO and page ranks, but it all boiled down to the fact that nobody really knew for sure

Yeah, there are just way too many variables involved. It would very difficult to narrow down why that site dropped in PR.

My philosophy (and my advice) is not to worry so much about whether something like a sig link helps your SEO. Does it get you traffic? If so then it is a good thing, if not then it isnt worth a dime. Nothing is more valuable than real human traffic - of course that is just my opinion......

Yeah, we hear arguments about no follow vs do follow all the time. We need a new distinction called people follow. If people follow the link then it is a good link

Signature do not harm PR. Most likely what happened to the PR5 person is that they placed too many external links on his site which lowered his own PR. I thought that was always a myth but I have experimented over the last year with a couple of my sites and the ones with a lot of external links lost PR. I am now a believer.

Any baklinks are a good thing. I know people that only have forum backlinks and they have pr after the first update

Having a Signature link in forums is a good technique to drive traffic and generate backlinks to your site. there are many dofollow forums providing signature linking, which in fact helps in generating good and relevant backlinks to your site.

Posting signature links to your website on forums helps search engine rankings just as well as posting to online directories.

I have got PR on some sites just from backlinks in signatures.

In my experience it is not a major helper. I helps bring traffic. It also helps in terms of SEO, but you shouldn't really depend on this as an option

I say that any backlink that is do follow is a good thing, no matter what. It allows for people to check out your site and also allows you to have more backlinks. That's a good thing to have.

hey forum signatures are mostly use for the Backlink and also for increasing the traffic by clicking on the signature. This form signatures are mostly use for getting backlinks.
