Search for Forums, Social Bookmarking sites and Blog´s with dofollow tagged links and a high PR rank. This takes some time but it´s free of course!

Participate in do follow forums that allow signature. It really gives a good backlinks.

I would try guest blogging. Contact blog owners and see if they would be interested in posting an article by you on their blog. It's not easy because, you know, you actually have to write the article. But if the blog has a high enough PR, it would be worth it to get that backlink.
