Thread: How important is PR?

Many of us still not aware what Page Rank is. For a new webmaster, this is really a strange phrase.

PR is very important to get your site recognize and have reputation. But how a site gets a PR?

There are many ways and most effective is link building.

I think PR is important but I also think that having quality content is better because who cares if you are on the top. If you aren't giving out quality, then whats the use?

True...some of the top listed sites on google have little to no pr compared to the next page or pages.
Any webmaster who obsesses on pr is not keeping his eye on the entire concept of having a site.

If you are on top, you must have a good traffic...

Not neccessarily true.

Some people overlook and look at the other sites because the first one is just adds and crap.

A high PR is important for a site but a good SERP ranking is the most important among others

Hmmm, as of now, Google made it less important because they lessen the link sales and PR juice of the site.

PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important".:3083:

Are you trying to say this is the Google Algorithm in ranking pages?!

I had read this book that said that your PR goes down when it recognizes that theese are bought links.

Not always, however i think my hideurl directory have never been crap i know i didn't have much content before on it but now recently i've added a blog and going to add some other stuff so hopefully the fact that people turn away is gone in most cases with my site

backlink and content will help you got high pr

most people think that PR is not that important but IMO it represent how good your site is...

Nice point, but for a normal individual who use a normal browser without any addons, including Google toolbar, PR is not noticed and yet PR is not accurate enough to view the true PR of the page

In some people's eyes, page rank means everything and that's how traffic is built up but then the downside is if the traffic seems genuine. If the site is "crappy" no one will stay for long and Google knows that.

Relax, there's nothing wrong with criticizing other people's post besides we learn from it, well I don't know about you but I do. And do bear in your mind that not all people will agree with you.

PageRank is not quite as important of a factor in website ranking as it once was.

No, search engine position is more important and the site's presentable landing page to be able to get more traffic from it

PR has nothing to do with content.

Page Rank is what google will give you, or take away from you.
