It's definitely because it's the preferred payment option for eBay, plus it's been around longer than Moneybookers. I've had my PayPal account since 2001 so I'm accustomed to using them, and I'm sure there are many others like me.
How about fee structure, the fact that many shopping carts do not have money bookers built in.
8% credit card fee of money bookers for merchants is INSANE

I have noticed that in a lot of scripts, where there is paypal, stormpay, egold, and a few others as payment options.
Don't believe I have seen one with moneybookers.
I have only ever used PayPal, and in my opinion, I will stay with them until I have enough volume to justify getting my own merchant account!
Why try others, when paypal has everything I need for now, the fees are not that bad (I just adjust my prices a bit to compensate for the fees)

IDK... I can't even get to the moneybookers site. I'm thinking IE blocks it or something.Seems to work fine for everyone else, but everyone else uses FF.

IE will let you see it.
At least IE7 on my computer gets to the site.

I just like Paypal better, however I just signed up for Moneybookers the other day..
It seems that which country has paypal they have all and the country who have no paypal they have nothing. Even they can't do any online business just because they are not supported by paypal

Becoz of first mover advantage!!!
Also moneybookers sucks many other way .....
because they own ebay
I agree. eBay is the reason that paypal is so popular.

No, Ebay OWNS Paypal....
Paypal was extremely popular before Ebay bought them out.
I like them because sending and receiving money is free for personal account holders.
Nothing to do with why PP is more popular but they also own x.com.
Like all the others said it's mainly because of Ebay.
paypal is widely acceptable and easy to use like funding and withdrawal........ they have support & wide range of sites prefer paypal for their ecommerce solution.....

Paypal is a household name by now because of the ebay connection so it will always have some advantage over its competitors.
well moneybookers definitely has advantages over paypal. atleast it does not limit each and every transaction unlike paypal which does that for almost every transaction in my account, have to mail them and they correct it after 3-4 emails.
regarding why paypal is more popular is that most of the big companies, domain sellers , parking sites etc. use paypal as payment option. unless moneybookers becomes more widespread and tie up with these it not going to be very popular.the limited amount of sites which accept moneybookers is a hinderance.
also another thing , for people in india is that if one wants to withdraw to bank account-- paypal presents option to add any savings account and pays using the NEFT network.basically it means almost everyone can get payment via that.
while prob with moneybookers is that one needs to have bank account to be SWIFT enabled to accept paymnet and not all bank branches are Swift enabled. if only moneybookers would use the local money network like paypal does they could be more popular.
the network of Paypal is bigger, especially that it is tied up with eBay

Ebay owns paypal!
The reason is simple, because the most important merchants support Paypal. But the competition raise with time.
in my view because its US based and most internet users are from USA
and they have an easy verification process as well
I think paypal is more secure and they have to many member now

Ebay deffinatley a big part of it for sure, and the money they have backing for advertising.. I've honestly never even heard of MoneyBookers until right now..

I can't believe you never heard of MoneyBookers until now.

MoneyBookers is also a good payment system, but in my opinion Paypal is better since you can find more companies that you can pay via Paypal.
Its because of EBAY. I don't think Moneybookers is accepted everywhere though. One time I had to pay a designer in the Philipines and he had Moneybookers. I signed up to pay him and then wanted to pay another designer in Romania I think and it wasn't available there. I think this was January 2008.
PayPal is dominant because of Ebay for sure. Unless PayPal service goes really south, they will only get bigger and bigger.

Because now paypal is more famous.
